Crime from 4/23 to the present day.

-From the data collected we can see that the crime in the past 3 months is fairly
spread throughout campus.
-Seems like a good amount of crime taking place, within the summer. Though we
have nothing to compare it to, we do see a problem, with reoccurring crime at 3
different locations. We found the 3 areas where crime was reoccurring within a 3
month period, to be quite troubling.
-General campus lighting, as well as the emergency lights, does not really seem to
influence the direction crime takes place.
-Trends we noticed with crime, is that almost all occurred within a reasonable
amount of distance of a blue light.
-Lighting is not a significant factor when determining safety, as crimes occurred in
areas that had both emergency lights close, and general lighting.
-We have faith in the resources UCF has, but perhaps, it lacks in effectively being
allocated.

-How do we then begin to reduce crime?, if light as we had previously thought was
not a significant factor.
-Is the summer significant? Is it a sensitive time, where more crime is likely to
occur?
-How do the numbers in attendance for students, professors, other UCF staff
members, correlate with the amounts of crime occurring?
-Does the police department reduce patrolling, and officials, during the summer?
-Are there any other factors in the resources UCF has, which is limited during the
summer?
-If so, how can a series of maps be of use in requesting a more consistent (all year
round) protection?
-Are maps a way of doing more with less?
-If posted, or accessible; does it promote a surveillance type of effect on criminal
prospects?
-Would crime decrease, if this information (maps) was presented via Knights News,
social media, or any other resource UCF has for presenting this to its community?

-Would students plan ahead according to the data the maps present?
-Would they create their own curfew, make better decisions that would reduce their
vulnerability to criminal activity?

-Our frame work in mapping out the types of crimes, the time of day, and location;
serve a larger purpose than correlating it with the lighting/emergency systems, as
we did.
-If we continue to document these 3 details that pertain to criminal activity, we will
begin to see more trends, throughout campus.
-It is our right to be aware of this, and cant think of a more effective way to paint
the picture for students. Other than actually constructing these maps and
presenting them on our website, knights new, or social media.
-Reporting the news on a daily basis communicates the present. Reporting a
recollection of criminal activity through mapping, communicates the past. Both
which can help safety be more consistent in the future.
-Knowing the available resources, and how to respond to certain scenarios is nice;
but I dont think many people consider such services, because they dont see the
crime that goes on.
-Our goal is not to induce fear, but raise awareness.
-With the data presented, we can begin to establish trends of crime; that will
directly correspond to a sensitive time of day, location, and type of crime
committed, throughout campus.
-This can help officers in tactically positioning themselves within a reasonable
distance from sensitive areas, or perhaps just raising awareness; as noted with
areas of reoccurring crimes.
-Through mapping we can see a clearer image, which can be presented to other
individuals within the community that can use the data more effectively when
allocating the universities resources.

-Though it might seem worrisome for future investors, I mean students; the sincerity
this would communicate would probably outweigh any concerns both potential and
actual UCF community members might have.
Reputation might be a reason we wouldnt want to present this, but I guess it all
depends, if we are more interested in students safety or appealing to future UCF
community prospects.
