National Award Winner is

Local Employment Fixer Wendy Moore

Employment fixer Wendy Moore has won a prestigious award that recognises the often lifechanging achievements of criminal justice staff.
Nottingham-based Wendy Moore works for the Derbyshire, Leicestershire, Nottinghamshire
and Rutland Community Rehabilitation Company, (the DLNR CRC), which supervises and
rehabilitates offenders across the East Midlands.
The winners of the national Probation Awards were announced this week in front of an
audience that included criminal justice leads from around England and Wales. The annual
event attracts submissions from both Community Rehabilitation Companies and the National
Probation Service.
I am delighted that Wendy Moore has won, said Jo Mead, Chief Executive Officer of the
DLNR CRC. This award recognises the incredible hard work and dedication that Wendy
displays in her role as she engages with local companies.
Working in criminal justice can be challenging, but incredibly rewarding when you see an
individual start to change and rebuild their lives. Getting a job is part of that process and
we need more companies to engage with our employment and training teams. The work of
the DLNR CRC means that we are contributing to making communities safer by cutting down
on crime.
CONNECTIONS WITH 150 EMPLOYERS
Wendy Moores role involves working with and supporting local and national companies with
offices and warehouse outlets in the East Midlands. She seeks to develop the employers
confidence and ability to offer work placements, training and paid employment to motivated
current and ex-offenders. Her work has established links with more than 150 employers.
EMPLOYMENT BENEFITS
-

National research reveals that there are higher rates of unemployment amongst
offenders than in the general population. Two years after release from custody,
47% of ex-offenders were receiving out of work benefit support compared to just
12% of the general working-age population.

After one year the re-offending rate for unemployed ex-offenders, who had
received a prison sentence of less than 12 months, was 69% compared to 32%
for those in paid employment.

Background Information

The statistics were taken from the Ministry of Justice Analysis of the Impact of Employment on Reoffending following release from custody using Propensity Score Matching.

The Derbyshire, Leicestershire, Nottinghamshire and Rutland Community Rehabilitation Company was
launched in June 2014 as part of the Governments Transforming Rehabilitation Programme. A number
of Community Rehabilitation Companies were created in England and Wales to supervise low and
medium risk offenders and the nationwide National Probation Service manages high risk offenders.
