Vacation Time! How glad it seems!
Theres so, so much you want to do.
So let your little fingers dance around
With ink and pen, paper and scissors, paint and colour.
Switch on the search engines of your mind,
Whatever you have learnt just rewind
Little bit of research and lots of imagination
Will add colours to your creations.
Now Get Set Go .
Dear Students
The much awaited summer vacation is here. It is a welcome break a break from a fixed schedule, freedom
from rules and regulations. It is time for you to rest from work, to stay indoors, to catch up with friends, listen to
stories from grandparents, learn from their experiences and follow some creative pursuits. Do a lot of reading
and some enjoyable, interesting activities too that we have put together for you to keep you engaged positively
and your energies well directed. You have been given one or more activities per subject but you need to do only
one per subject except English. Please ensure that while you may research from sources, like the Internet, your
work must be original and in your own handwriting. We hope your activities will be well managed and
presented as these activities will be a part of your Formative Assessment.
Have a happy, fun filled and happening break!
Last date for submitting the homework is Friday, 5th July 2013.
A Note for the Parents
Dear Parents
The summer vacation is a much deserved break for kids. However, to maintain continuity of learning, we have
devised this holiday homework and incorporated activities that will enhance their creative, analytical, research
and interpersonal / practical skills.
This is a good opportunity to spend quality time with your children. Visit zoos, museums, monuments etc.
Catch a play, a dance or music recital. Engage him/her with whats happening around in the world. Work on
your childs conversational skills and encourage him/her to speak in English. Read to or with your child.
Motivate your child to read English and Hindi story books and childrens magazines. Remember that this is the
best time to write poems, stories and articles for the School Magazine. We would also encourage you to do any
remediation work to help the child catch up with his/her grade level.
For the holiday home work, do monitor your childs work and assist when necessary but do not be over
involved. The holiday homework turned in should be the childs work and he/ she will be graded for his/her
effort.
Enjoy the break and the time with your children!
For details of the holiday homework please refer to the school website: www.dpssl.net

SCIENCE
Food is valuable. If not preserved, it may begin to spoil. Cooked or uncooked food can be preserved in different
ways.
Dehydration is one of the oldest method of food preservation.
This vacation lets preserve some fruits / vegetables using this method.

Wash and dry fruit/ vegetables you need to preserve.

Cut them into small pieces and let them dry in the sun.

Once they are completely dehydrated, they will be crispy to touch and no longer flexible.

Dehydrate 10 fruits or vegetables using this method. Put them in a zip pouch separately and stick it in a scrap
file.
Also write the method of dehydration and paste relevant pictures.

OR
Using different preservatives is another method of preserving food.
Visit a supermarket. Read the labels on some food items. In a scrap file write the various preservatives used to
preserve food items under following category

Milk products
Cereals
Jam/jellies
Sauces
Soft drinks
Frozen snacks

Also click pictures of your visit to supermart and paste them in your scrap file.

SOCIAL SCIENCE

1.
The National Capital Region is in many ways the cultural centre of India. Utilise the summer vacation by
exploring the glorious history of Delhi. Visit a historical monument with your family. Discover the
photographer in you and take interesting pictures of it. Research and gather more information about the
monument. Compile your efforts in a scrap-book which should include information, photos, pictures and
your impressions/observations.
2.

Design a jigsaw puzzle of the seven continents of the world on a piece of cardboard (approximately 1 ft.
by 1.5 ft.). The cut-outs of the continents should interlock on the map of the world pasted on the
cardboard.
