Michael graduated from Riley High School in 1980. He loved golf, Notre Dame and the
Bears. To those who knew Mike, he would be found on the golf course every weekend.
Notre Dame football season was spent getting caught up with friends tailgating, than off
to watch the game.

Forklift investigated in South Bend death
47-year-old man killed in accident
5:47 PM EST, February 15, 2011
SOUTH BEND Investigators say the worker killed Advertisement
Monday at Steel Warehouse died after he was crushed
by a forklift.
An autopsy conducted today showed 47-year-old
Michael Gorzkiewicz, of South Bend, died from blunt
force trauma to the chest, said deputy coroner Chuck
Hurley.
Gorzkiewicz was working at Steel Warehouses plant
at 1400 N. Riverside Drive, near the intersection with
Angela. Paramedics were called to the plant at 11:21 a.
m. Monday, and they pronounced Gorzkiewicz dead
four minutes later.
An initial investigation showed that Gorzkiewicz was
behind a forklift that was parked on a inclined ramp,
when the forklift gave way, rolled backward and
crushed him between the forklift and a truck, Hurley said.
An investigation into the incident is being conducted by Indianas Occupational Health and Safety
Administration and is expected to take several weeks.
As part of that investigation, South Bend police reported that the forklift in the accident was impounded and
towed from the scene.
According to an obituary, Gorzkiewicz, is survived by his wife, three children, two stepchildren, his parents and a
brother and sister.
A family member contacted Tuesday declined to speak about the incident, and said Gorzkiewiczs family was
still in shock.
