Pilgrimage to Italy

In the Footsteps of the Apostles

Day 1: Our pilgrimage begins as we board our overnight flight to Rome, Italy from our
local airport. Dinner and breakfast will be served during our flight.

Day 2: Upon arrival in Rome we will transfer via deluxe motor coach to Sorrento
and the Almalfi Coast. Before checking into our hotel, we will visit the Cathedral of
St. Andrew, Amalfi and the crypt where Cardinal Pietro Capuano placed St. Andrews
relics in 1208. Mass will be celebrated by our Spiritual Director. Overnight Sorrento
Day 3: Today we will depart Sorrento by boat as we cruise along the Almalfi Coast.

Our final destination is Positano which looks onto a small bay and has a pleasant beach
backed by mountain buttresses. The houses are built on terraces among gardens. In the
lower part of the town well visit and participate in Mass at St. Maria Assunta. Well
take the boat back to Sorrento in time for dinner. Overnight Sorrento

Day 4: Today we will visit the Salerno Cathedral in Duomo, which houses the remains
of Matthew the Apostle. The cathedral also features frescos by Belisario Corenzio and
the Duomo Museum houses artwork and documents from different ages. All roads
lead to Rome and well be there tonight. Dinner. Overnight Rome

Day 5: We will begin the day with an orientation tour, such as the Colosseum, Arch of
Constantine, the Roman Forum, giving us an overview of the Eternal City. Next we
will visit San Bartolomeo allIsola, built by Emperor Otto on the site of the Temple of
Aesculapius. It was renovated and rededicated in 1180 after the arrival the relics of St.
Batholomew the Apostle. Well proceed to Santi Apostoli, where the relics of St. James
the Less and St. Philip reside, then well visit the Basilica of St. Mary Major and San
Giovanni Laterano, the first church of the popes. Dinner. Overnight Rome

Day 6: Today, we will take a day trip to Assisi, the birthplace of St. Francis. Here we will
have a chance to see the Basilica of San Francesco dAssisi, Santa Maria Maggiore, and
the medieval castle Rocca Maggiore. Youll be at leisure in the afternoon to soak of up
the atmosphere of Assisi and to take in some of the other sights, including the Roman
amphitheater, abbey of St. Benedict, the Church of St. Clare, or Santo Stefano, one of
the oldest churches in Assisi. Return to Rome for dinner. Overnight Rome
Day 7: Early departure for St. Peters Square to participate in the Papal Audience

(subject to the Popes schedule). In the afternoon, well visit St. Peters Basilica, finished
in 1626, where the remains of St. Peter, St. Simon, and St. Jude Thaddeus are kept.
Time permitting, well visit the catacombs and St. Paul Outside the Walls. Dinner.

Overnight Rome

Day 8: Today Ancient Rome will be explored beginning with Mass at the Church of
Santa Maria Ara Coeli (a Church on the Capitoline Hill which commemorates a vision
of Augustus Caesar of the Virgin Mary). We will then visit the Mamertine Prison
where St. Peter and St. Paul were imprisoned for 9 months, convertingtheir fellow
prisoners and jailors. We will continue the day by visiting the remnants of the Roman
Forum around the Colosseum. After lunch we will visit the Church of San Clemente
where each of its three levels has historical and spiritual significance. Dinner.
Overnight Rome

Day 9: Today, well visit the churches in the center of Rome, including the Church of
the Gesu (the mother church of the Society of Jesus and the tomb of St. Ignatius),
Santa Maria sopra Minerva (where St. Catherine of Siena is buried), and the Pantheon.
Leisure time in the afternoon, then we will gather together for our farewell dinner.
Overnight Rome

Day 10: Arrivederci! Our motor coach will take us to Romes airport for our return
trip home.
