Discipleship with Youth

Student ministry falls under the umbrella of the local

church and is not a church in and of itself.
We are partnering with families for the spiritual
development of their students.
Relationships = for the cause of spiritual growth.

2 BIG IDEAS TODAY

Foundation: an intentional relationship driven ministry to

produce spiritual growth (program ministry vs. people ministry)

All we do must be tied to equipping students to go into the

world, not isolate them from the world.

Developing Students

{Our Purpose @ ABC}

Colossians 1:9-10 For this reason also, since the day we heard this, we havent
stopped praying for you. We are asking that you may be filled with the knowledge of
His will in all wisdom and spiritual understanding, 10so that you may walk worthy of
the Lord, fully pleasing to Him, bearing fruit in every good work s and growing in the
knowledge of God.
The student ministry of Ankeny Baptist Church is committed to building intentional
relationships with students and families for the purpose of developing spiritual
leaders. (Let me explain in a minute what I am mean when I use the term spiritual
leaders.)

How easily could your students and families describe

what your student ministry is
about?

The growth
God is looking
for in our
world is
growth in
people.

What
of spiritual development

A. What are the building blocks?

(1)What do they need to know?
What biblical truth?
Doctrinal beliefs should they have?
What principles and convictions should govern their life?
Knowledge + growing to know and love the God of the universe.
Our starting point/foundation is the Word of God through teaching
and preaching thats not just for adults.
DO YOU STOP AT JUST GIVING THEM THE KNOWLEDGE?
Do they know what to do with it?
Where is it modeled in their life? Where do they see it?

What
of spiritual development

A. What are the building blocks?

(2)What kind of skills do they need to have?
Do they have a working knowledge of Gods Word?
There has to be a strong element in our student ministries that
demonstrates the how.
Caution: Biblical knowledge doesnt always equate to spiritual
maturity.
Instruction manual vs. walking with them (knowledge + the skill to
use it)
What spiritual skills do students need to be equipped with? If we
were to compile a list, what you put on there?

Spiritual development

@ ABC

Sunday + Wednesday = knowledge plus application

Small groups - discussion, accountability, Scripture memory, fellowship,
serving, etc.
1 on 1- KEY - What is the students growth area?
Training and equipping isnt just limited to a Bible study, but its
certainly not centered on anything else but the Word of God and the
growth of the student.
Other forms
-bible studies
-growth areas in the student
-Running, Jogging, Walking
-Prayer - Bible Intake - Witness -

remember
-We have to see the end goal - preparation for life after youth
group!

-Relationships need to have a long term mindset and not just

the initial burst of excitement.
