LEADERSHIP
Dictionary Definition:
The action of leading a group of people
The state or position of being a leader

Scholastic Definition:
A process of social influence in which a
person can enlist the aid and support of
others in the accomplishment of a common
task. (Chemers, 1997)

SITUATIONAL LEADERSHIP

A situational leader is anybody anywhere who recognizes that


influencing behavior is not an event but a process. (Hersey, 1969)

SITUATIONAL LEADERSHIP
Provides leaders with an understanding of
the relationship between an effective
style of leadership and the level of
readiness followers exhibit for a specific
task
Stresses that flexibility and simplicity in
execution can equip leaders with the
necessary tools to address demands
Maintains that there is no one-size-fitsall approach to leadership

SITUATIONAL LEADERSHIP

A Leader
Identifies the most important tasks or priorities
Diagnoses the readiness level of the followers
Decides on the matching leadership style

TRANSFORMATIONAL LEADERSHIP

A process where leaders and their followers raise one another


to higher levels of morality and motivation. (Burns, 1978)

Motivates and inspires people to
engage with that vision
Manages delivery of instruction
Coaches and builds a team, so that it is
more effective at achieving the vision

PROFILE OF AN EFFECTIVE CHRISTIAN LEADER


Demonstrates a strong and active personal faith, and is
knowledgeable of Church teachings and faith traditions
Builds a shared vision for a community and establishes a culture
of improvement

Acts with openness and integrity, and strives to foster trusting


and collaborative relationships
Demonstrates acceptance of responsibility and works to
establish a culture of shared responsibility
Commits to ensuring success for each member of the group

ACTIVITY
Conduct an interview with one student leader in
the University
Identify his/her personal philosophy when in
comes to leadership
Create a one-page reflection paper about what
transpired during the interview
