The Original Challenge

Started with a blank page....The Problem:

About 3 years ago, Oracle was just too slow to handle the
volume of event transactions (almost 1 Billion per day) which
was increasing month on month. Only small space for hardware
was available. The user needed access to data in near real-time
and expected query responses in < 1minute drawing against 6
months of historic data (approx 180 Billion records).
To maintain Raw Data integrity and granularity. AND the user
had no suitable system admin skills to do periodic maintenance.
What resulted was a software framework that included loosely
coupled, modular generic functions incorporating;

Event Record Management

Event Records (CDR, IPDR) are BIG DATA in Telcos.
Customer activity generates Hundreds of Millions or
BILLIONS of transactions per day in many Telcos.
Billing is the mission critical function of CDRs but most
Telco business divisions and non-critical systems still
lack access these in near Real-Time. The customers
experience is locked in this BIG DATA. Why?
Problems / Difficulties & Opportunities
Legacy Mediation systems, evolutionary growth of processing
capacity limitations, policy concerning access to mission
critical systems and the architecture of the OSS do not lend
themselves to be flexible or agile. They are traditional
stovepipe facilities that Do what they Do well but dont
expect them the adapt to new business drivers.

What is an EVENT RECORD

The CDR (Call Detail Record) is the best example of an
Event Record in the Telco world.

BUT these days the telco network is used for much

more than just CALLS so the term CDR is no longer
adequate to describe transactional events.
CDRs contain a lot of detail, this is a sub-set

Network Events Repository (NER) facility allows various

business units to use the best-of-breed tools with the option to
easily migrate to another solutions in the future

Replay HISTORY able to re-run historical transactions as it

originally occurred. This is a very powerful capability and allows
Network Data to be managed as a valuable Enterprise asset.

Business units have the option to define their own requirements

on the mode and format data is provided. Custom reports and
alerts can be easily generated or provided in standard outputs.

Draw upon the same source data, available in near-real time
