Summer Project Guidelines - Batch 20
Summer Project Guidelines - Batch 20
INTRODUCTION
The first year of the PGDM Programme covers foundation courses imparting to the students
insights into the essential areas of business. At the end of the first year, the student is
required to undertake a project of 8 weeks duration in the intervening summer. This helps
the student to put the theory he / she learnt in the first year into practice or get an insight into
how an organization functions.
OBJECTIVE
The primary purpose of the summer project is to give the students first-hand experience of
working in an organization while testing their theoretical knowledge against practical
situations. This vital ingredient of the course leaves the students with a clearer perspective
of their goals and thereby in a better position to choose their area of specialization.
DURATION
The students will work full time on the project work for 8 weeks during May / June.
PROCEDURE
1. The students will carry out the assigned project for 8 weeks between 28 April 2015
and 30 June 2015. (Please note college reopens on I July and all must attend college
on that day. Summer Project duration has to be adjusted accordingly)
2. The organizations are requested to provide the project title / project in brief to the
selected student so that the student comes prepared for the Project Work.
3. The area of project could be in any one or a combination of the following functional
areas:
HRD, Finance, Marketing, Systems, POM or International Business
4. Immediately on joining for the project work, the student is required to fill and send
the Reporting Form (Annexure-1) to Dr. K B Vijayakumar, Summer Project
Coordinator duly approved by the reporting executive of the organization.
5. The student and the nominated reporting executives are required to determine the
Title and scope of the project considering the fact that total duration of the project is
8 weeks.
6. If certain confidential data / information cannot be put in the report, the organization
is requested to indicate the same to the student and make suitable assumptions so that
this process will not affect the progress and completion of the project.
7. The student will provide the draft report to the Project Guide of the organization and
the faculty guide of XIME who will go through it and approve it for finalization. The
institute will accept only the approved Project Reports.
8. One copy of the finalized report is to be submitted to the organization and it will be
appreciated if the students are provided with an opportunity to make a presentation of
their findings and recommendations to the senior level executives of the organization
in the respective functional areas. They will also be giving a presentation to a
committee headed by the faculty guide at the institute.
9. The Guide to whom the student is attached during the project duration is required to
assess the students performance during the project in the Feedback Form
(Annexure III) and to please send it directly to Dr. K B Vijayakumar, Summer
Project Coordinator, XIME, Electronics City, Phase II, Hosur Road, Bangalore
560100.
10. The organization is requested to provide stipend wherever applicable or
reimbursement of expenses if any incurred in connection with the project work
subject to the policy of the organization
