Purpose
To describe electrical works associated with installation of exposed conduits for protection of power
cables from mechanical abuse and a serious fire risk if the wires are damaged or cut.
1.2
Scope
This method statement is covering the electrical works related to areas having cables running outside
concrete walls, brick walls, and floor slabs. In any room where aesthetics are not an issue, such as an
unfinished basement, mechanical room or garage, steel conduit is a good choice to enclose exposed
wiring. Works are carried out basing on construction schedule and detailed shop drawings approved.

Temporary materials
Cable leads 20m/2 sets will be connected from construction temporary panel for AC 220V power
supply for power tools and lighting.
2.8
Protection
Protect the threads of steel conduits on the uncoupled end by the thread protectors which
keep them clean and sharp and aid in trade size recognition.
Deliver component parts to site, completely identified in accordance with approved shop drawings
prepared for this work. Store in accordance with manufacturer's instructions, above ground, properly
protected from the weather and construction activities.

Safety Briefing
The contents of this method statement shall form the basis of a toolbox talk for all operatives before
the commencement of such works.

Mitigation of Risk
Visual Inspection
Supervisor to carry out a visual inspection of the work areas, materials, tools, safety equipment and
confirm ready to commence works.

Prepare tools and materials such as steel conduit, flexible metallic conduit, circular surface box,
inspection threaded elbow/tee, single switch box, pipe hanger/supports, accessories, bender and
hand tools etc.
3.2.2
3.2.3
Conduit boxes will be installed at the positions as defined on the shop drawing to accommodate all
the light switches, power outlets, lighting points and ELV equipment. Conduit boxes will be
connected with appropriate sized conduits.
3.2.4
The routing of the conduits that be exposed shall be according to approved shop drawings.
3.2.5
After finishing the concrete /brick wall, mark the conduit routing as per approved shop drawing.
3.2.6
Install the Steel and Flexible steel conduit in straight runs and without any diagonal layout.
3.2.7
The exposed conduits shall be held in the right position by using the saddles which are installed
directly to the concrete/brick wall.
3.2.8
3.2.9
The maximum permissible length of the metallic flexible conduit used for the connection to the
fixture unit should not exceed 2000mm (see detail 03).
3.2.10 Install straps or other means of securing the conduit in place is spaced much closer together (every
1500mm and within 300mm. of each end) for flexible conduit than is necessary for rigid conduit
(see detail 01).
3.2.11
To provide flexible conduit for exposed conduit installation where have the expansion joints, joint
for fixtures, and equipments (see Detail-01 to Detail-05).
3.2.12 Always lay the exposed steel conduits parallel or perpendicular to walls and structural members.
3.2.13 Minimize the number of bends in any single conduit run. Follow minimum bend radius
requirement.
3.2.14 Bushings, locknuts, couplings, connectors are made up tight to ensure good continuity. Use double
locknuts when insulating bushing is used.
3.2.15 Install boxes with a separate supports.
