Rules:
A) Use the past simple for a single completed action in the past where the time
is specified or understood.
B) Use the past simple for a longer state or series of actions which began and
finished in the past.
C) Use the present perfect for a completed action or experience in a period of
time up to now, often in ones lifetime. The time is not specified.
D) Use the present perfect for a recent completed action in the past that is
relevant to or has a result in the present. The time is not specified.
E) Use the present perfect for a state or series of actions which began in the
past and continue to now.
