Will Holden continue to be miserable for the rest of

his life?
The Catcher in the Rye is a novel written by J.D. Salinger in which he
describes a very short but problematic part of a teenagers life. The
story plot is a bit complicated but Holdens life is by far the worst. The
way his thoughts and decisions change in a matter of seconds is what
really doesnt help his personality because he never thinks about the
consequences that will come with his actions.
However Holdens life is very messy and makes him feel miserable
about certain events that occur in repercussion of his careless actions.
Despite the negative side of his careless mind, theres always a bright
side in everything. In this case what makes him feel comfortable is
Jane Gallagher, an old friend he has but the peculiar aspect was that
Holden was infatuated with her. But he never expressed those feelings
to her so he just feels miserable because the only thing he has are the
memories about her.
Moreover, old Phoebe as he called his little sister was someone else
that made him feel lighthearted and he considered that she wasnt
phony and judging him all the time. He was habitually complimenting
her like The good thing about her is that she always knows what
you're talking about and can tell the difference between a good movie
and a bad one; Holden is stating that she is a very smart kid despite
being only ten years old, but sometimes she also gets on his nerves
and he just want to get away from her. Phoebe, D.B. and Allie made
them feel comfortable. Even though Allie died of leukemia some years
before, when Holden thought about him, he always felt cheerful
commemorating and describing him He got leukemia and died when
we were up in Maine, on July 18, 1946. You'd have liked him. []He
was terrifically intelligent. []He was also the nicest, in lots of ways.
He never got mad at anybody. But when he comes back to reality he
feels as if the world is against him every single time something
happens to him.
In conclusion, despite the fact that Holden felt comfortable with some
memories that he recalled from the past, he will always feel miserable

while facing real life problems and people because he wants the real
world to be just as he wants it to be. He is always thinking that every
adult and teenager he meets is a phony and because he will not
change his point of view about people, in consequence he wont enjoy
the rest of his life as he should have.
