The joint meeting of the Rotaract Club of
Holy Spirit and the Interact Club of Holy
Spirit National High School last 12 July
2015 started with Youth Service chair of
RC Holy Spirit PP Marcia Salvador asking, If the dreaded 7.2 magnitude earthquake happens now while we are meeting, what are you going to do?
The practical actions for DISASTER PREPAREDNESS suggested by the Philippine Institute of Vulcanology & Seismology (PHIVOLCS) and the QC Red Cross
were reviewed with the youth partners.
This is part of the on-going program of
RC Holy Spirit to help residents and
homeowners associations within and

around the barangay to arrange for briefings from the QC Red Cross and to organize their own disaster response
teams. The West Valley Fault Line is only
about 2 kilometers away from Holy Spirit.
The Rotaractors and Interactors then proceeded to discuss and develop the program for their 2015 Joint Induction and
Handover Ceremonies to be held at the
Don Antonio Heights clubhouse on Sunday, July 26th. The joint meeting at the
youth service HQ along Don Senen Street
was attended by 13 Rotaractors and 14
Interactors, and witnessed by WC President Angel Castro, PP Marcia and chair
Ric Salvador of RC Holy Spirit.

More on DISASTER PREPAREDNESS on Page 2 of THE DOVE.

Holy Spirit continues to enable communities to prepare themselves for disaster reduction and risk management
Following the orientation briefing arranged by RC Holy
Spirit with the Quezon City Red Cross for five (5) villages
in Barangay Holy Spirit in late 2014, the first Disaster
Preparedness Seminar was conducted at the Don Antonio Heights Subdivision last July 4th, 2015.
Some 150 homeowners/residents attended the 3-hour
seminar conducted by Mr Lloyd L Sapla, RN, EMT. Mr
Sapla is Head of QC Red Cross Disaster Management
Unit and Staff in Charge of the Emergency Response
Unit. He began by showing the geological hazards ex-

perienced by the country in recent years. He also discussed the possibility of a 7.2 Magnitude Earthquake
along West Valley fault based on scientific studies.
The seminar covered practical suggestions on what to do
before, during and after a disaster, particularly an earthquake. An objective of the seminar is to form a Disaster
Management Committee and emergency response
teams in the community.
The seminar was coordinated by PP Marcia with the QC
Red Cross.

while new agreement is forged with RC San Mateo Midtown
D3800, symbols of friendship and collaboration on projects
The 10th charter anniversary celebration of RC Holy
Spirit last 29 June 2015 was marked with the renewal
of sister club affiliation with the Rotary Club of Marikina
North D3800, and the forging of new sister club friendship ties with RC San Mateo Midtown D3800.
WCP Robert Eric B Sanchez of RC Marikina North
came with IPP Francis Joseph Villareal. Sisterhood
ties with RC Marikina North date back to RY201011and we have worked together with them on several
medical-dental missions and disaster relief projects.

RC Marikina North was chartered in 1980.

WCP Teresa C Amado of RC San Mateo Midtown
D3800 came with Rtn Dr Grace Angeles who has
joined us in two (2) recent medical missions in Montalban in behalf of San Mateo Midtown.

Induction and turnover rites held as RC Holy Spirit celebrates a

decade of Service Above Self
WCP Angel Castros term began with a
milestone celebration for RCHS 10
years of service above self!! The turnover and induction rites on June 29,
2015 at the Don Antonio Heights Clubhouse was preceded by a thanksgiving
mass, said by no less than Fr Luciano
Felloni, former executive director of Caritas Novaliches and a good friend of
WCP Angel.
After dinner, a brief history of RCHS
was nostalgically narrated by CP
Nides, from the time of its chartering
during the time of the late PDG George
Howard until its near-demise and rebirth. Special thanks to PDG Danny
Fausto who refused to let the club die.
During the valedictory address of BCP
Marites Nepomuceno, she presented
Dove awards of distinction to outstanding members who exhibited commitment and service above self for the
RY 2014-15. She specifically cited PP
Dr Eui Bong Jung for his personal sacrifices in conducting the monthly medical missions and his international af-

filiations resulting in mostly unexpected

innumerable support to the club and
the district.
After the inaugural address of WCP
Angel, the club officers for RY 20152016 were then presented. They were
inducted into office by DG Rey David.
What followed was an entertaining
dance number performed by the Interactors, Rotaractors and Rotarians of
Holy Spirit.
The programme was
capped by the inspirational message of
DG Rey. Gracing the occasion were
IPDG Sam Pagdilao, PDG Francis
Rivera, PDG Jess Cifra, PDG Dulce
Coyukiat, PDG Danny Fausto who
came with Spouse Peia, district officers, BCPs and WCPs.
PP Marcia Salvador acted as master of
ceremonies. Wining and dancing well
through the night added fun to the celebration of RCHSs milestone.

Greetings to officers and members of the Rotary Club Holy Spirit.

By just reading your club bulletin and club profile for the first time, one

Principles that Guide Rotary

The Object of Rotary

The Four-Way Test

First formulated in 1910, the Object of Rotary is to encourage and

foster the ideal of service as a basis of worthy enterprise and, in particular, to encourage and foster:

Of the things we think, say or do

FIRST. The development of acquaintance as an opportunity for service;

SECOND. High ethical standards in business and professions, the
recognition of the worthiness of all useful occupations, and the dignifying of each Rotarian's occupation as an opportunity to serve society;
THIRD. The application of the ideal of service in each Rotarian's personal, business, and community life;
FOURTH. The advancement of international understanding, goodwill,
and peace through a world fellowship of business and professional
persons united in the ideal of service.

Is it the TRUTH?
Is it FAIR to all concerned?
Will it build GOODWILL and BETTER
FRIENDSHIPS?
Will it be BENEFICIAL to all concerned?

ROTARIANS PLEDGE
I am a Rotarian
I will always uphold the TRUTH.
I am a Rotarian
I will always strive to be FAIR
in all of my dealings with my fellowmen.

5 Avenues of Service
Based on Object of Rotary, the Five Avenues of Service are Rotarys philosophical cornerstone and the foundation on which club activity is based:

Club Service focuses on strengthening fellowship and ensuring the

effective functioning of the club.
Vocational Service encourages Rotarians to serve others through their
vocations and to practice high ethical standards.

I am a Rotarian
I will always endeavor to build
GOODWILL and UNDERSTANDING
in my community,
among my countrymen
and people of all nations.

International Service encompasses actions taken to expand Rotarys

humanitarian reach around the globe and to promote world understanding & peace.

I am a Rotarian
I will always seek to promote
the greatest good
for the greatest number of people
in the spirit of ROTARY SERVICE.

Youth Service recognizes the positive change implemented by youth

and young adults through leadership development activities, service
projects, and exchange programs.

I am a Rotarian
I will always uphold
the Rotary International Motto,

Community Service covers the projects and activities the club undertakes to improve life in its community.

SERVICE ABOVE SELF.

Rotary Code of Conduct

As a Rotarian, I will
1. Exemplify the core value of integrity in all behaviors and activities
2. Use my vocational experience and talents to serve in Rotary
3. Conduct all of my personal, business, and professional affairs ethically, encouraging and fostering high ethical standards as an example to others
4. Be fair in all dealings with others and treat them with the respect due to them as fellow human beings
5. Promote recognition and respect for all occupations which are useful to society
6. Offer my vocational talents: to provide opportunities for young people, to work for the relief of the special needs of others, and to improve the quality of life in my community
7. Honor the trust that Rotary and fellow Rotarians provide and not do anything that will bring disfavor or reflect adversely on Rotary or fellow Rotarians
8. Not seek from a fellow Rotarian a privilege or advantage not normally accorded others in a business or professional relationship
