ACTION RESEARCH PROPOSAL

Title: THE USE OF SJA (SEE, JUDGE, ACT) METHOD TO IMPROVE CLASSROOM
CONTROL IN LOW LEVEL ABILITY CLASS
1.0 INTRODUCTION
1.1 Background
The purpose of my action research is to explore behaviour modification by using SJA (See,
Judge, Act) method to encourage positive and observable behaviour changes in my pupils. It
is my intention that this simple method will guide pupils to stop negative behaviour, stand
back from a negative situation and reflect on the consequences before they jump in and take
wrong action in any situation.
positively reinforce pupils who used appropriate behaviour while communicating and
working with others while reflecting on the behaviour
1.2 Reflection of Past Teaching Experience
During my past practical teaching, there has been many challenges that I have encountered,
from learning the school system, strategies to attract pupils attention in my classroom, and
adapting myself to the school environment. The one thing that I have found to be the most
challenging to be done is finding my own individual teaching style and structure for
classroom management. Based on this problem that I have encountered, I have decided to
plan an action research on this topic to polish my classroom management skills by
implementing SJA method.
2.0 WHAT IS MY FOCUS OF INVESTIGATION?
2.1 What is my research issue?
My research focuses on my Year 3 Baiduri pupils, which consists of thirty nine-year-old
pupils at Sekolah Kebangsaan Seremban 2A. In this class, the number of male pupils are
slightly higher than the number of female pupils which also included one dyslexic male pupil.
This combination of pupils, from different areas of interest and different learning abilities, has
been the source of my exploration and need to find appropriate classroom management
skills for this unruly mix of pupils.

2.2 What have I learnt about my research issue?

3.0 WHAT IS/ARE MY RESEARCH QUESTION/S?

4.0 WHO ARE MY RESEARCH PARTICIPANTS?

My targeted participants are Year 3 pupils specifically Year 3 Baiduri.
5.0 WHAT IS MY RECOMMENDED INTERVENTION?
5.1 Observation I will observe the pupils participation in each speaking activities.
5.2 Interview I asked a few questions related to the effectiveness of using songs.
5.3 Questionnaire I will ask the pupils how much they progress in speaking after I
implement the use of songs in the class.
6.0 How will I collect my data?
7.0 How will I analyse my data?
8.0 What is my plan of action?
Schedule: Every listening and speaking lesson once a week.
Budget: No budget needed
