Hello Everyone,
Welcome back to Term 3, and a special welcome back to Mr Faulkner and Mrs Mills who return from
leave. We also welcome new families who have joined us this term. It has been great to see the new
students making friends and quickly settling into the school.
As always, this will be a very busy term with many extra activities and events for students. A term
planner is included with this newsletter to help you keep track.
Exemplary School
At the end of last term we were identified as an exemplary school and, as such, were visited by four
members of an external Review Group. They spent five days in the school and it was gratifying to
receive acknowledgement for the outstanding work being done by all staff, students and parents.
Rippaball Our Schools a Star
Sasha Claughton created the entry for the Our Schools a Star competition last term, a video
featuring the Rippaball program. We were thrilled to be one of 20 Shining Stars out of 121 entries
that was a great achievement.
Rippaball will continue this term thanks to funding from Sporting Schools. Matt Winter will be doing
Rippaball in the NASHS gym Tuesdays 3:30 to 5:00 starting today, no notes needed, all welcome.
Boards and helmets will be available to borrow. The regular Wednesday Rippaball sessions will
continue at school. Matt is keen for parents to learn how to umpire Rippaball so if you are interested
come along on a Tuesday or Wednesday.
Our Place
With Shelley Vaughan taking 12 months leave, Tammy Woods and Heather Maguire have taken
over working with students in the afternoons. Chappie and our super volunteer, Ruben De Graaf,
continue to make Our Place a fabulous hive of activity and a real asset to the school. Students are
engaged in gardening, journalling, mosaics, jewellery making, construction projects, spending time
with their mentors and more. You may also have noticed a new fixture in Our Place Buckets the
Cow has taken pride of place in the garden.
On Wednesday mornings from 9:15 to 10:30 littlies and their parents are welcome to join the Our
Place Playgroup run by Christine Tozer.
Passport System
This is a terrific way to be acknowledged and rewarded for the time you spend supporting your child
at school. Dont forget to bring your passport to Thursdays assembly to earn 10 points. If you dont
have a passport yet, sign up for one next time you are in. Passport points = Mount Lockyer dollars
that can be spent at the school.
Assembly
Room 9 will be performing at Thursdays assembly. We hope to see many of you there.
Looking forward to a busy, happy, safe and healthy term for all.

Principal

MANAGING STUDENT BEHAVIOUR

WHAT IS BULLYING?

The key to this approach is that the child is given a choice at each step to
follow directions or face increased consequences.
Students making GOOD CHOICES are acknowledged for their efforts.
For students making POOR CHOICES the following consequences
apply ~

Bullying is when a student or group

keep picking on another student. They
try to hurt them physically or
emotionally.
The
behaviour
is
deliberate and repeated.

STEP 1
Student refuses to follow directions.
Verbal warning.
STEP 2
Student still refuses to follow directionsIn-class consequence e.g. Time Out
STEP 3
Student still refuses to follow directionsOut-of-class consequence e.g. Buddy
Class.
STEP 4
Student still refuses to follow directionsRED CARD is sent to the office.
Parents will be requested to attend
school.

SUSPENSION
Students will be immediately
suspended for verbal abuse of
staff and/or violence towards
staff or students.

RE-ENTRY FOLLOWING
SUSPENSION
Students returning from
suspension must be
accompanied by an adult and
will attend the Intervention
Centre (Room 20) where an
Individual Behaviour
Management Plan will be
developed and implemented.

A fight or disagreement between

equal students is not bullying.
HOW TO STOP BULLYING

Tell an adult, it is not dobbing to

ask for help. Both victim and
those bullying will be counselled
and supported.
Do not be a by-stander; if you
witness bullying try to stop it or
report it.
IF YOU ARE BULLYING

Step 1: Warning
Step 2: In school isolation and
counselling at recess and lunch,
parents will be notified
Step 3:
For continued breaches
students will be suspended.
