Our destination was Phoenix but before that we had to go to Las Vegas, and
so we had several hundreds of miles to travel yet.
Our traveling took as

through rain and snow but we kept praying

that the Lord would see fit to per

We then had

the choice of major

or the

purchasing of a new one.

We were prepared to order a new one but not buy one
just yet, but again the Lord had different plans.
We looked for carry-alls
in Las Vegas and had my father and brother-in-law looking for them in Phoenix.
Finally we found one in Las Vegas that fulfilled most of the specifications
that we were hoping for.
The cost was $4896.
We continued on to Phoenix to
check on our finances and discovered that we were about $1200 short.
We made

a personal loan and as of this writing owe $1000.

HOME WITH THE LORD

"The Lord gave and the Lord hath taken away,

Most of our readers will probably remember

of last year

the

1-year-old Javier Wright

that it was on Easter Sunday

left this world

to be with

the

Lord.

This April

the Lord took tv/o more

of the Queretaro members

home to be

with Him.

Hermana Juanita, as everyone knew her, waa.79 years old^V For about a
month and a half she had very yellow eyes and then her skin turned yellow
also.
The church offered to pay for her medicine if she would go to see a

doctor.

The doctor would only charge her 3 pesos or 2^ cents because she was

very poor. And so she did go to see him and seemed to be helped by the medi
cine.
But awhile later she got a little worse and her son-in-law who lives
with her took her to a quack doctor who said her only problem was that she
wasn't eating.
We took food and drink to her but she steadily grew worse.
When we offered to pay for hospital expenses if we would be permitted to take
her to a hospital,
the son-in-law said he could take care of her himself.
And so she eventually passed away, without anyone really knowing what disease
she had although we suspected hepatitis.
The church members were very unwelcome
in the little shack.
It was
filled with crucifixes and candles
by the son-in-law.
It is customary for

the family to stay up all night praying that the soul will not pass into pergatory.

The other church member wa&-Bro. Soto.

I^e was also -79 years of age.' -He

had just celebrated his birthday and praised the Lord for a long life.
Any
one who has seen one of our slide presentations since we have come to Mexico,
has probably seen Mr. Soto's picture.
He illustrated the Bible stories that
he told with beautiful colored drawings.
Mr. Soto was the father of .18 children. They all live in Mexico City or
Queretaro and are well educated.
He owned a weaving shop that produced beau
tiful rugs, sarapes, etc.
He suffered a stroke

the first part of the month and gradually grew

worse.
Norm spent many hours
in the hospital with him and Bill was also
there quite often.
Just when it seemed that he would soon be released,
he

contacted pneumonia

and three days

later

passed away.

This was only five

days after rtermana Juanita left this life.

Both the Dungans and us are friends of the family.
We visited the fun

As all the family is Catholic, he was taken
to a Catholic church.

painted dark blue and is lit by ultraviolet light. The light makes things flouress. The
walls have flourescent pictures of Jesus and Bible verses painted on them to help stimulate

He is very popular here in Mexico.

Everyone asks if he is a boy or girl and when we say
a boy they respond that it is wonderful.
(It is definitely preferred here to have a boy
first.)
The second question asked is how many children do you have. When we respond that
he is our first, they are even more elated that he is a boy.
Then they tell us that the
next one will be a girl,

We obtained Mark*s Mexican birth certificate here in Queretaro v/hen he was two weeks old.

(It isn*t automatic here.)

Then when he was 6 1/2 weeks old we went to the embassy in Mex

ico City for his U.S. birth certificate. He has duel citizenship until he becomes 18 years
of age and then he must decide to which country he will belong.
In Proverbs 22:6 we read "Train up a child in the way he should go: and when he is old,
he wil,l not depart from it." This is our goal with Mark.
SWEET MOMENTS FOR MORE PEOPLE

The month of November brought growth to the radio program we produce, "Dulces Momentos,"
(Sweet Moments).
Four different people decided that they wanted to put the radio program
on in the city in which they live. And so we had several visitors who asked about the pro

gram and how it could be best used and adapted to fit in their situation.
Each area required a special announcement inviting the listeners to write in asking for a

free correspondence course or for more information about the Word of Life.
self was drawn from our library of over 500 pre-recorded programs.

The program it

It was necessary to re

cord the special announcements and add them to the program, but it was time well spent be
cause in four more cities people are now receiving the Word.
We are told that through the
foolishness of preaching men will be saved and a radio program takes the Word into homes of
those who would never enter a church.

Towards the end of the month we were reaching a crisis.

to record.

We had run out of tapes on which

The probl^ ended when the Lord laid a burden on the hearts of Christian breth

ren.
They sent us 100 new tapes and almost as many boxes containing empty reels on which
to put tape. Believe me the boxes really suffer from being transported on buses here.
Another very important addition to the work sent by the same brethren was a bulk eraser
for tape. Every tape must be erased before being reused.
I used to spend about 2 minutes
on each tape to erase it.
Now it tcUces just 4 seconds and the tape remains in its* box
The tapes are laid on a conveyor belt which takes them across the magnetic field of the
eraser and then they fall off in a neat stack at the other end. This is a great time-saver
as you can imagine. We praise the Lord for meeting our every need.
DAY OF THE KINGS

We would like to tell you about the Day of the Kings.

In Spanish it's called "Dia de los

This day is the 6th of January.

Now, how many of you

like Christmas presents? Well, in Mexico most of the people don't give presents on Christ
mas. When the kids go back to school after Christmas vacation they don't ask each other
what "Scmta" brought them.
They don't get ANYTHING for Christmas.. .BUT they DO ask each
other, "What did the kings bring you?" Parents amd friends buy gifts for the children, but

"many^f the^texican children tell.e\^tHat~theni^^^ brin^these gifts.

The tradition is
that during the night the three kings, or what we call wisemen, pass by each house and if
the child has been good the wisemen will leave him a gift, just as the wisemen of long ago
took gifts to the baby Jesus.
Before each child goes to sleep, they leave their shoes at
the foot of the bed and expect to find some goodies in them in the morning.
