through the Urban Innovation Challenge.

present and get feedback on their innovative solutions from the delegates
and stakeholders of Municipalika 2015.
Municipalika 2015 will see the presence of senior government officials of all
levels, industry practitioners, academia, think tanks and industry leaders
For this years Urban Innovation Challenge we are focusing on the theme of
SAFE, SUSTAINABLE HABITAT AND SMART CITIES.
SOLUTION AREAS

MICRO LEVEL : SAFE, SUSTAINABLE HABITAT

If your zone of intervention and impact is limited to an area within 8 hectares,
your proposal would be considered as that at a Micro Level. Your idea could
focus on either safety or sustainability or both.
The current edition of Urban Innovation Challenge calls for ideas that will help
ensure safe and sustainable habitat. You may go beyond the realm of only
residences or housing and look at the built environment or the environment in
general.
Safety has been foremost in many discussions in the recent past. Natural and
man-made disasters have spurred many a debate on this subject whether it
is the Nepal earthquake, landslides, water-logging and floods or poor health
and hygiene causing epidemics. Change in our lifestyles, social and
economic inequities have increased insecurity and made us more vunerable.
There is no doubt that good and appropriate design could help mitigate
disasters. It has also been studied conclusively that design interventions play
a big role in promoting a sense of social belonging which could lead to a
drop in crime and increase security and safety.
Solutions for Sustainable Habitat could exemplify excellence, innovation and
technological advances in passive and active design, inclusive design,
affordable housing, energy efficiency, building management systems, energy
generation, water efficiency, rainwater harvesting, waste water
management, Waste segregation and management and recycling at the
building level.

MACRO LEVEL: SMART CITIES

SMART CITIES:
Smartness in cities today is often referred to comfortable living with the help
of technology. But we are also looking for ideas that go beyond this definition
of smart cities. Efficiency, sustainability, safety, transport systems, planning,
affordability, recycling and reuse, healthcare, good governance, education,
disaster preparedness, traffic control, energy and water management, all of
this also contributes to the smartness of a city.
We welcome design ideas that add the smart quotient to cities. The
minimum site area for design/ intervention shall be over and above 8
hectares.
Please note that the above mentioned points are only suggestions. We
encourage you to come up with other ideas that are in keeping with this
years theme for Urban Innovation Challenge.
Your solution could address any one of these problem areas or multiple
problems.
