Science and Technology staged
a surprise party on Thursday, March
26, 2015, to honour and celebrate the

birthday of the Vice Chancellor, Prof.

coincided with the Senate meeting for
that day.
The Vice Chancellor, Prof.
Barineme Beke Fakae, who was visibly
surprised at the decoration of the

Senate chambers with birthday cake,


food and drinks, queried what was
going on in the hall that had escaped
his approval before the Senate
meeting but was greeted by a
simultaneous out burst of 'Happy
Birthday to You' song by the Senate
members who had it all planned out.
He was full of smiles, noting that the

Science Council of Nigeria,
MLSCN, has commended the
Vice Chancellor of the Rivers State
University of Science and
Technology, Prof. Barineme Beke
Fakae, for his good works in the
University.
The Registrar and Chief
Executive Officer, CEO, of the
Council, Prof. Anthony Emeribe,
made the commendation at the 9th
Induction/Oath Taking Ceremony
for graduands from the Department
of Medical Laboratory Sciences of the
University, held at the Amphitheatre
on Saturday, April 04, 2015.

The Registrar, Mrs. Daba C.
Odimabo, proposed a toast for God's
continuous guidance, protection and
good health of Prof. Fakae. She also
prayed that God would grant the Vice
Chancellor the grace to continue to
soar higher in every sphere of life. She
explained that the celebration was in
recognition of the unrivalled
contributions of the Vice Chancellor in
bringing the University to a world
class standard where individuals and
organizations now feel proud to be
associated with her.
She eulogized the Vice
Chancellor, describing him as an
astute administrator that has brought
about positive change in every aspect
of the University, administratively and
otherwise.
The Senate members could
not hide their joy as they reeled out
eulogies to celebrate the Vice
Chancellor's birthday. Some of them
in an interview disclosed their deep
respect for the man of the moment.
The Dean, Faculty of
M a n a g e m e n t S c i e n c e s , P r o f.
Adolphus J. Toby, said, I feel
accomplished working with a man of
vision, determination and
commitment, whose legacies are
unrivalled. I hope the foundation he
has laid for the University, including
the newly approved College of
Medicine, would be sustained by
future administration.
Also, the Dean, Faculty of
Engineering, Prof. Miebaka J.
Ayotamuno, described the Vice
Chancellor as a man that has focus

and who is under the guidance of the


Holy Spirit. He said the ViceChancellor had shown the spirit of
excellence in all his undertakings. We
thank God for him and he pray that
God should move him to greater
heights, not only in Rivers State but in
Nigeria and the world, he said.
The Head, Department of
Forestry and Environment, Prof. Nkalo
Hudson Ukoima, also eulogized Prof.
Fakae, stressing that his

administration had brought about


sanity in the various processes of the
University. He thanked the Vice
Chancellor for insisting on merit as the
only means of getting grades as
against any form of gratification. This,
he stated, was one of the legacies that
would speak for him, including the
deployment of Information and
Communication Technology, ICT, in
the delivery of services in the
University.

He stated that the ceremony
was to administer oath of Council on
the Medical Laboratory Science
graduands of the University who had
distinguished themselves in
character and in learning. He charged
the inductees to guard their conduct
as it could directly or indirectly affect
their profession, the University and
their family.

Prof. Emeribe also urged the


inductees to cultivate the culture of
personal development through
education and also strive to keep
abreast with current trends in the
profession by accessing the web page
of the Council regularly.
In his address, the Head,
Department of Medical Laboratory
Sciences, Prof. Confidence Kinikanwo
Wachukwu, applauded the Vice
Chancellor for the unparallel
transformations in the University

H e c o n g ra t u l a t e d t h e
inductees and urged them to
represent the University well by
working harmoniously with their
senior colleagues and avoid
professional bickering. He also
thanked the parents of the inductees
for their financial and moral support
to the graduands which made the day
a reality.
Responding on behalf of the
inductees, Miss Ezeofor Rosemary
Ebelechukwu who was the best
graduating student in the
department of Medical Laboratory
Sciences for the 2013/2014 academic
session thanked the Council for
finding them worthy. She also
thanked the Management of the
University for creating an enabling
environment for teaching and
learning. She congratulated fellow
inductees and urged them to defend
the University and their profession.
Earlier, the Vice Chancellor,
Prof. Barineme Beke Fakae, in his
remarks, congratulated the
inductees and enjoined them to be
w o r t hy a m b a s s a d o rs o f t h e
University. He thanked the Registrar
and Chief Executive Officer, CEO,
MLSCN, Prof. Anthony Emeribe, for
all the support given by the Council to
the University.

opportunity to announce that the
Rivers State Government had given
approval for the commencement the
University's College of Medicine and
that Prof. Raphael Oruambo had
been appointed as the Provost of the
College.
Highpoint of the ceremony
was the presentation of award to the
Vice Chancellor by Prof. Emeribe on
behalf of the Department of Medical
and Laboratory Sciences. A total of
139 inductees took the oath of
service and collected their license to
practice from the Council.

RSUST Donates Books to Port Harcourt


World Book Capital 2014

he Rivers State University of


Science and Technology, has
donated books to the office of
Port Harcourt, Nigeria UNESCO World
Book Capital 2014. The books which
comprises of sixty titles of over two
hundred volumes, were delivered to
the office on Thursday, April 2, 2015,
by the University Librarian, Dame Dr.
Blessing Ahiauzu.
Dr. Blessing Ahiauzu while
presenting the books on behalf of the
Vice Chancellor of the University, Prof.
Barineme Beke Fakae, explained that
the donation was to support the
success story of Port Harcourt being
the UNESCO World Book Capital for
2014. She said that the University
would continue to identify with efforts
aimed at improving the society

educationally.
She said that the
books were valuable to all
ages considering the
information contained in
them, adding that the
University was open to
partnerships with well
meaning organizations in
order to add value to society.
