Seventeenth Senate Minutes

2 February 2008
9:30AM, Firstenburg Conference Room

1. Call to Order. Meeting was called to order 9:31 am by Vice President Gunderson.
2. Roll Call. Senators Hildebrant and Morgan were not present at roll call.
(Hildebrant arrived at 9:34 and Morgan arrived at 9:35)
3. Additions or corrections to agenda. None.
4. Approved Agenda. The agenda was approved.
5. Approve Minutes. Minutes were approved.
Reports.
6. Executives:
a. President Announcements –
i. Peter was working on the regents visit, and noted that they were
pleased to hear what was going on at WSUV.
b. Vice-President Announcements –
i. Mackenzie has worked on the Board of Regents meeting, training
the new activities director, and research for Facilities operations
opportunities
c. Executive Staff –
i. Activities Director: Eric is getting to know the position and
learning the job.
ii. Public Relations: Emily has been advertising all the events
organized so far and made a tabling board that will be permanent.
iii. IT: Erik Lim formally resigned and Peter and Mackenzie are
looking for a new IT director.
iv. Legislative Affairs: Andrea was WSO in Olympia last week and
attended the Thursday night reception with the regents.
v. Director of Clubs: Blake is working on helping Eric with the
mobster ball and forum work.
7. Committees Announcement:
i. External affairs – January was for researching “find a need, fill a
need” project.
ii. Programming – Working on decorating the commons, a trophy
case, and donated artwork.
iii. Finance – $14,000
iv. Rules and Regulations – worked on the 3 constitutional
amendments that will be voted on during this meeting.
v. Budget- met with the library for printing costs, there will be a
presentation to the senate and a by-law amendment.

8. Approval of December 14 minutes.
a. Minutes were approved.
New Business.
9. Resignation of Senator Amanda LaPore
10. Confirmation of Senate
a. Senate was given a minute to read resumes.
b. Nominees: Jacqueline Cruz and JW Dalton. They each had a turn to speak
on their own behalf. Brown made a motion to vote, Wiggins seconded.
c. The senate confirmed Jacqueline Cruz.
11. Bill 17.040
a. Read by Senator Whitling
b. Whitling moved to second reading, Fuller seconded. Whitling asked if this
will continue to future years. Yes, they will continue for at least 3 years.
Hildebrant asked who will see the robot; the answer was students all over
the world and in a variety of majors.
c. Whitling motioned to call to question. Wiggins seconded. Bill Passed.
12. By-Law Amendment 17.028
a. Read by Senator Wiggins
b. Hildebrant moved to second reading, Harman seconded. Aday stated that
it would just be chairs of the committees. Hildebrant asked about the 12
people in the statement of fact. Wiggins replied that it could be that now.
c. Whitling moved to second reading, Morgan seconded. By-Law
Amendment passed.
13. Constitutional Amendment 17.01
a. Read by Whitling
b. Whitling moved to second reading, Wiggins seconded.
c. Fuller moved to second reading. Wiggins seconded. Amendment passed.
14. Constitutional Amendment 17.02
a. Read by Whitling
b. Whitling moved to second reading, Wiggins seconded.
c. Whitling moved to amend section 2 to read “section a” Brown seconded.
d. Cruz called to question, Hildebrant seconded. Amendment passed.
15. Constitutional Amendment 17.03
a. Read by Senator Whitling
b. Cruz moved to second reading, Brown seconded. Hildebrant asked if we
can do this. Response was that it has to be approved by the student body.
Discussion: tuition is $3140; therefore 10% is $314 per semester.
c. Hildebrant moved to add “to take affect at the 18th Senate and to benefit
future senates.” Whitling seconded
d. Brown moved to amend “per semester” to section 2. Ferderer seconded.
e. Hildebrant moved to call to question. Fuller seconded. Amendment
passed.
16. Elections Calendar
a. Michelle spoke, the timing was off, election board member resigned,
campaigning time was too long.
b. Brown moved to amend “all campaigning materials down by 8 am 3/6/08.
Fuller seconded
c. Amended elections calendar
d. Whitling moved to approved calendar. Wiggins seconded. Calendar
approved.
17. Announcements.
a. Hildebrant: anyone with a student-need to speak with him.
b. Jami: please turn in your sweatshirt order form
c. Andrea: Monday is Primary voices at 3:30 with Miss Washington.
18. Adjourned. The meeting was adjourned at 10:17 am by V.P. Mackenzie
Gunderson.
