Dorothy arrives in the Land of Oz after her house kills the Wicked Witch of the East. She meets Glinda, the Good Witch of the North, who explains that Dorothy has freed the Munchkins from the Wicked Witch's power. However, the Wicked Witch of the West, who is even worse, seeks revenge on Dorothy for killing her sister. Glinda tells Dorothy she must travel along the yellow brick road to the Emerald City to meet the powerful Wizard of Oz, who may help her return home to Kansas.

(Land of OZ, Munchkin land. Slow curtain, Bright lights. Dorothy slowly gets up from prone position.) Dorothy:
Tito, I have a feeling were not in Kansas anymore. We must be
over the rainbow. (Toto barks)
Glinda comes in.
Glinda:
Are you a good witch or a bad witch? (Munchkins in hiding
chuckle). Dorothy: What was that? Glinda: The Munchkins. Theyre laughing because Im a witch. Im Glinda, the Witch of the North. Dorothy: You are? I beg youre pardon, but Ive never heard of a beautiful witch before. But if you please what are the munchkins? Glinda: Theyre the little people who live in the land. This is Munchkin land and you are their heroine my dear. Its all right munchkins, you may all come out now and thank her. (Munchkins start to come on-stage from hiding place). Dorothy: You mean to say I caused a miracle. I dont understand. Glinda: Yes, by killing the wicked witch of the East you have caused a miracle. Dorothy: You are very kind but there must be some mistake. I have not killed anything. Glinda: Your house did anyway, which is the same thing. See! There are her two ruby slippers still sticking out from underneath it. Dorothy: But who was she? Glinda: She was the wicked witch of the East. She has held the Munchkins in her power for many years. Now they are all set free and forever grateful to you. Munchkins: We thank you very sweetly for doing it so neatly. Mayor: This is the day of independence for all the munchkins and their descendants. As mayor of the Munchkin City, in the county of the Land of OZ, I welcome you most royally, But weve got to verify it legally. If shes morally, ethically, spiritually, physically, positively, absolutely, undeniably and reliably dead. !1
Coroner: Mayor:
As coroner, I thoroughly examined her and shes not only merely
dead, shes really most sincerely dead. Let the joyous news be spread, the wicked old witch at last is dead! (Munchkins scream and cheer) Lollipop Guild (Munchkins raise Dorothy on their shoulders and sing Ding Dong the Witch is Dead) Ding-Dong the Witch is Dead (Munchkins & W,H,)
Ding-Dong the witch is dead
Which old witch, the wicked witch Ding-dong the wicked witch is dead Wake-up you sleepy head, rub your eyes, get out of bed Wake-up the wicked witch is dead Shes gone where the goblins go, below, below, below Yo-ho, lets open up and sing, and ring the bells out Ding-dong the Merry-O, Sing it high, Sing it low, Let them know, the wicked witch is dead! Witch comes in. Dorothy: Glinda: Witch: Dorothy: Witch: Glinda: Witch:
Glinda:
I thought you said she was dead!
That was her sister, the wicked witch of the East. This is the wicked witch of the West. Shes worse than the other one. Who killed my sister? Who killed the witch of the East? Was it you? (points to Dorothy) No, no it was an accident. I didnt mean to kill anyone. Well, my pretty. . . I can cause accidents too. Rubbish, you have no powers here. Be gone before someone drops a. . . house on you too. Very well, Ill bide my time. But you havent seen the last of me. Ill get you my pretty. And your little dog too. (Witch exits, cackling) Well, Im afraid youve made rather a bad enemy of the witch of the West. The sooner you get out of Oz altogether, the safer youll be, my dear. !2
Dorothy:
Id Give anything to be out of Oz and back with my Aunt Em and
Uncle Henry, but which is the way back to Kansas. Toto and I cant go back the way we came. Glinda: You must go to the city of Emeralds. Perhaps Oz will help you. Dorothy: Where is this city and who is Oz? Glinda: The city of Emeralds is exactly in the centre of the country and is ruled by Oz the great wizard. He is more powerful than all the rest of us put together. Dorothy: How can I get there? Glinda: You must walk. It is a long journey through a country that is sometimes pleasant and sometimes dark and terrible. But the ruby slippers of the witch are now yours and you shall have them to wear. No one will dare to injure a person who is wearing these shoes. (pause) Now all you do is follow the yellow brick road. Dorothy: Pardon? 5th Munch: Follow the yellow brick road. 6th Munch: Follow the yellow brick road. 7th Munch: Follow the yellow brick road. (All sing Follow the Yellow Brick Road)
