Where There Is No Vision

The Hoppers 58 City Tour

Where there is no vision, the people cherish, is a

quote from the Auxano group working with six
associational teams in Alabama. I know you first
thought that was a misprint, but it is not. You see,
before we perish, we usually end up cherishing.
We cherish how things used to be instead of
learning how to deal with things as they are now
and are becoming. We cherish old methodologies
Ken May
and traditions instead of investing in new
Director of Missions
relationships. We cherish those who have passed
from our midst instead of pursuing those with whom we could
develop new friendships and gospel-centered relationships. People
who do not have a guiding vision spend most of their lives looking in
the rear-view mirror. Churches without a guiding vision focus on
how things used to be.

Thursday, July 9, 7:00 PM

In early 2008, a group of MBA associational leaders met to begin

working on a strategic visioning process for MBA. That year-long
process, guided by Dr. George Bullard, produced our Future Story, a
narrative picturing MBA from the vantage point of 2018 looking
back. While our story has been quite helpful, it has not had the
traction needed to bring it to full fruition. The time has come to
begin re-visioning our association, particularly from the perspective
of discovering our uniqueness. In partnership with the Alabama State
Board of Missions Office of Associational Missions and Church
Planting, a few of us have begun working with Brian Rose of Auxano
to prepare us to guide our visioning team through this process.
Our goal is to create a vision framework that allows us to see Gods
preferred future for us based on who we are and our uniqueness. This
process is derived from the book by Will Mancini entitled, Church
Unique. I can guarantee that each leader participating will learn
things that can be extremely helpful in their own local congregation.
We are holding our first meeting on June 23 from 4:30 until
8:30 p.m. at the MBA office. A snack supper will be provided at
no charge to participants. All members of the previous visioning
team are invited to participate. Others have received an email
invitation to participate in this process which should conclude by
October or November. I hope you will prayerfully consider
participating in this exciting effort. If you are not part of the
visioning team, please prayerfully support this effort. Those who are
interested in serving should contact me at kmay@mgmbaptist.org to
confirm their spot.
