SECURITY GUARD (awkward), look at the box.
SECURITY GUARD (CONT'D)
Don't forget that box.
JANE turns to look at the box too, and turns back to
SECURITY GUARD.
JANE
Oh.. just some of our old pictures,
they are all messed up anyway.
4: Sees box, filled with decayed photos (LITTLE JANE, 3,
holds a new, fluffed rabbit doll [same one from the box] in
her arm ) , on the case.
SECURITY GUARD
Alright then..I am gonna check on
the other units, Just don't take
too long. I gotta lock this place
down.
Hears shutting door sound offscreen.
EXT. JANE'S MOM APARTMENT - DAY
4c: Sees JANE coming out from the apartment building in
BACKGROUND. Excavator continues to pour construction waste
into the dumpster (recycle bin next to dumpster) in
FOREGROUND.
4e: Tilt up to the gloomy sky
6: TITLE: THE CYCLE stamped on the gloomy sky.
EXT. BUSINESS DISTRICT - DAY
9: Camera tilt down: Couple of buses and cars passes by in
front of JANE and people next to her (left side of the
frame). In each gap of cars passing,smog coming out of the
cars, sees they stop at the crosswalk, waiting for the light
to turn.
10b: JANE carelessly looking around. Doll ear twisted a bit
10bii: The ear caught JANE's attention. JANE turns to trash
can, nothing's there.
15: Traffic light now turns green.
15a: Sees JANE slowly crossing the street, still with
questioned expression among other people who are walking.
EXT. JANE'S BUILDING - DAY
19: JANE walks inside as the building's sliding door closes
behind her. The building sign: Department of City Planning
street no: 2046
INT. CUBICLE -DAY
25: JANE puts down the coffee cup (underneath a circular
mirror). Phone rings and JANE goes to table offscreen.
26: Sees smoke from coffee cup is rising up.
27: PANS UP FROM COFFEE CUP: Sees the smoke is framing
around the mirror, which forms a skull figure from the
reflection in the mirror (clock and JANE putting on earpiece
as the eyes; the chair as nose; and binders underneath the
mirror as the teeth).
28: JANE picks up the phone.
JANE
Department of Community
Development. This is Jane.
MR. FERGUSON (guy, around 60s), is heard.
MR. FERGUSON
Janie...Janie, it's Mr.FERGUSON You
have to save our building...
28a: Shows a title card indicating: Jane Thames, Principal
City Planner. ( Dialogues keep continuing)
28b: Shows 5 posters (each show the progression of the
city's demolition plan ) on cubicle wall.(Dialogues keep
continuing)
28bi: Rear of Jane with 5 posters above her desk (dialogues
continues)
28c: Shows petition letters on right side of desk.
(Dialogues keep continuing)
MR. FERGUSON (CONT'D)
I have written so many petition
letters....They never
respond...Janie, you can tell them
to hold off, can't you?
Beat.
MR. FERGUSON
I have been living there my whole
life...You... you grew up there
too. Janie. How could you be so
indifferent?
MR. FERGUSON hangs up the phone before JANE could reply.
Loud phone hang up noise,beeeep.
28e: CA to petition letters (sound of Jane putting down
phone)
34a: JANE, annoyed, throws all the letters on desk to the
trash can.
34b: She tries to push the letters into the overloaded trash
can, even more annoyed.
JANE
ARUGHHH!!!
JANE
And...and what are those...trash
bags?
DOLL
They were actually bags of trash
you humans threw away. They come to
look like that after some years
down here.
79:LIVE TRASH BAG (on the street where JANE and DOLL are
standing) holds a milk carton. LIVE TRASH BAG sucks in the
memories of the trashes ( the floating lights), then eats
the milk carton. After LIVE TRASH BAG ate milk carton, an
image is projected behind its head.
80: Shows the image a blurred mother figure pouring milk
from the carton to a blurred boy's figure's bowl.
81:
JANE
Wait...WHAT?
82: Shows another LIVE TRASH BAG holding a ring (ring is
surrounded by a few floating lights). THE LIVE TRASH BAG
swallow down the floating lights, then eat the ring.
projects an image behind its head. DOLL's voice offscreen.
DOLL
They suck in memories that they
found in human trash.
83: Shows the projected image behind the LIVE TRASH BAG
shows two blurred figures (one figure opens a ring case, the
other figure hugs the first figure).
JANE
Wait, memories? How can they suck
in memories?
DOLL
Look you see that? That's a memory.
Every object down here has
forgotten memories trapped inside
of them.
87a:
JANE
But.. WHY AM I here in the first
place?
88:
DOLL
It might be... a last calling of
something you threw away...
Once you remembered what you left
behind here, then you will be free
to go back.
OFFSCREEN. Suddenly loud opening trash pit door noise
echoing throughout the city.
91: DOLL and JANE turn around to see the trash bag pit.
EXT. TRASH PIT -DAY
91a: The high-striker like scale on the side of the pit
reaches its top. The sign on it says: "Overloading:
initiating dump cycle"
92: Sees Trash bags falling down quickly, and a huge force
sucking trash bags down. LIVE TRASH BAGS on the side of pit
is torn apart (exploding into pieces of trash).
EXT. EMPTY CITY STREET-DAY
93:
DOLL(TO JANE)
No No No!...The trash pit is
overloaded ...run.
Sees JANE and DOLL running among LIVE TRASH BAGS to the
opposite direction of the street. The force of suction
rapidly picks up many LIVE TRASH BAGS, trash bags behind
JANE and DOLL. Both of them are then also picked up by the
force.
93a: side view of JANE and DOLL flying up.
INT. TRASH BAG PIT HOLE
95: SLOW MOTION: JANE and DOLL falling among other trash.
EXT. LANDFILL - DAY
96: JANE and DOLL gets up from the ground of landfill. Shows
mounts of undefinable trash in the foreground. Dusty air.
Hear people speaking, arguing, crying,and laughing in the
air. But no one is around. Trash and pictures still falling
down from the hole.
97:
Jane getting up.
JANE
Ugh...
DOLL nods.
DOLL
..the Wasteland.
JANE
Well how do we get out?
DOLL
I...I don't know.
JANE walks offscreen to left.
97a: Camera follows DOLL to the right. A LIVE TRASH BAG
falls in front of doll.
97b: DOLL watches the LIVED TRASH BAG. A floating light
comes out of its mouth, and flies offscreen. LIVE TRASH BAG
chase the floating light. Camera boom up, reveals the
incinerator.
97c: WS of incinerator. floating lights flies into the
incinerator. The LIVE TRASH BAG chasing it, runs into frame.
LIVE TRASH BAG goes into incinerator.
97d:MS on chimney, floating lights realizes from the LIVE
TRASH BAG.The floating lights comes out of the chimney.
97e: CU on DOLL expression.
98: JANE, standing at the shore of the landfill island,
looks toward the ocean.
JANE
somebody tell me what I forgot...I
want to get out of here.
99: Sees an dirty ocean (dirt color) , with trash floating.
100: JANE looks down to notice a familiar picture at the
shoreline of the island. She picks it up.
101: Sees a decayed photo: On the photo is LITTLE JANE,3,
holding the rabbit doll (DOLL) -> same one as the one from
the apartment's box of photos.
102:
offscreen firework noise
JANE turns around. Sees DOLL walks closer toward the
incinerator.
EXT. INCINERATOR - DAY
103: DOLL walks toward the opened door of the incinerator.
He stops at the front of door.
104: Thru door: Sees 3 fireplaces interior, burning trash.
107: He then turns to look at JANE (who is also looking at
him), in the far distance.
DOLL
Look... I think I found a way to
get you out.
He turns to look at incinerator. then turns back to JANE.
DOLL
I guess this is goodbye now.
DOLL smiles, turns around and begin walking inside the
incinerator.
110:
JANE
Wait!What are you doing?
JANE looks at incinerator.
111: Sees black smoke coming out from chimney of
incinerator.
JANE, knowing what DOLL is going to do, immediately runs
toward to the incinerator.
JANE
Don't go in there!
112: She trips over and falls on the ground. She gets back
up and runs toward to the incinerator.
113: DOLL goes in, floating lights particles comes off from
his body.
When JANE approached to the door. It is too late, door
closing, only see through the gap between the closing door:
DOLL walking toward a fireplace. Door closes.
JANE, uncertained what to do now that she is alone, looks
around the landfill. Scared.
EXT. LANDFILL - DAY
JANE runs toward to the edge of the island.
115: Sees she looks to the left, right, and up, worried.
Sees a group of floating lights , shape of DOLL, comes out
from chimney of incinerator.
EXT. INCINERATOR - DAY
116: Follows FLOATING LIGHTS DOLL moving toward JANE.
116a: CU on Jane's boot, floating lights slowly come out of
the pieces of broken trash in landfill.
117: FLOATING LIGHTS DOLL wraps around JANE's hand. He lifts
her up to the air. Other floating ligths fly up with them.
118: FLOATING LIGHTS DOLL and JANE in air.
DOLL
Janie, even though you throw me
away, the happy memory I had with
you never changed. Our memories are
what kept me alive down here all
this year. But now I think you need
our memories more that I do.
