Dwi Korita is among the professors at the universitys engineering school. She
was previously deputy rector for cooperation and student affairs. There were also
two other candidates for the rector position, namely Iwan Dwi Prahasto and Didik
Achjari.
Korita, who went to school with Maritime Affairs and Fisheries Minister Susi
Pudjiastuti, was requested to increase UGMs quality and maintain its status as a
national university by increasing the number of students from regions outside of
Java.
This is a piece of history for UGM because we never had a female rector
since the establishment of this university in 1949, board chairman Sofyan Effendi
said on Saturday. Sofyan, who is a former rector, said the board had also asked
Korita to sign an integrity pact. The board will replace her if she fails to honor the
pact, he said.(dic)

Tulip
The tulip is a perennial, bulbous plant with showy flowers in the genus Tulipa,
of which up to 109 species have been described and which belongs to the family
Liliaceae. The genus's native range extends from as far west as Southern Europe,
Anatolia (Turkey), Israel, Palestine, North Africa, and Iran to the Northwest of China.
The tulip's centre of diversity is in the Pamir, Hindu Kush, and Tien Shan mountains.
A number of species and many hybrid cultivars are grown in gardens, as potted
plants, or to display as fresh-cut flowers. Most cultivars of tulip are derived from
Tulipa gesneriana.
Tulips are spring-blooming perennials that grow from bulbs. Depending on the
species, tulip plants can grow as short as 4 inches (10 cm) or as high as 28 inches
(71 cm). The tulip's large flowers usually bloom on scapes. Most tulips produce only
one flower per stem, but a few species bear multiple flowers on their scapes. The
showy, generally cup- or star-shaped tulip flower has three petals and three sepals,
which are often termed tepals because they are nearly identical. These six tepals
are often marked near the bases with darker colorings. Tulip flowers come in a wide
variety of colors, except pure blue. Tulip stems have few leaves. Plants typically
have 2 to 6 leaves, with some species having up to 12. The tulip's leaf is strapshaped, with a waxy coating, and leaves are alternately arranged on the stem.

Lions
Lions are wild animals that eat meat. It means that lions are carnivores. Lions
are magnificent animals that appear as a symbol of power, courage and nobility and
national flags in many civilizations. Wild lions currently exist in Africa and in Asia
with a critically endangered remnant population.
Lions live for ten to fourteen years in the wild, while in captivity they can live
longer than twenty years. In the wild, males seldom live longer than ten years, as
injuries sustained from continual fighting with rival males greatly reduce their
longevity. They typically inhabit savanna and grassland, although they may take to
bush and forest. Lions are unusually social compared to other cats. A pride of lions
consists of related females and offspring and a small number of adult males. Groups
of female lions typically hunt together, preying mostly on large ungulates, such as
Zebras, Deers, and Buffalos. Lions are apex and keystone predators.
Visually, the male lion is highly distinctive and is easily recognized by its
mane. Mature male lions are unique among the cat species for the thick mane of
brown or black hair encircling the head and neck. Both male and female lions roar, a
sound which can be heard as far as 8 kilometers away. However, Male lions are
bigger than female lions.

Earthquake
Earthquake often happens around us. It brings great damages. Earthquake
is hard to be predicted and that makes lot victims.
Actually there are three kinds of earthquake. This kinds of earthquake are
commonly base on the factor and geological area where the earthquakes happen.
These three kinds of earthquake are tectonic, volcanic and explosion.
Tectonic earthquakes is most common one. This kind of earthquake
happens while earth's crust rocks break because of the geological strength
created by moving of the earth's plates.
Volcanic earthquakes happen exactly with volcanic activity. Volcanic
earthquakes are when the volcano produces acidic lava, which drys quickly, when
it drys quickly it blocks the top of the volcano. This make no more magma can
escape. Pressure starts to build up and eventually the acidic lava can no longer
stand the pressure. So the volcano is free to explode, the pressure is released so
fast that an earthquake is caused. A volcanic earthquake is usually kept within
10-20 miles of the volcano. Explosion earthquakes are the result of the collapse
earthquakes that are small earthquakes occurring in underground mines and
caverns.
Tornado
What is a tornado? Tornadoes are known as one of the most
damaging disasters. What is the description of tornadoes? A tornado is a
very powerful column of winds which spirals around a center of low
atmospheric pressure. A tornado will look like a large black funnel which
hangs down from a storm cloud.
The winds inside a twister can spin around at speeds up to 500 miles
an hour, but it usually travels at roughly 300 miles an hour. This speed
twisting makes a tornado the most dangerous storm.
The average tornado has a diameter of about 200 to 300 yards. The
smaller tornadoes are known as satellite tornadoes. These small offspring,
about 50 yards across, can be very fierce and do lots of damage.
The forming of a tornado can be very quick. Sometimes it can form
in a minute or less. A tornado can travel across the ground at high speeds,
then it can suddenly vanish. Most tornadoes last less than twenty minutes
and travel less than 15 miles. However, the super storms sometimes travel
over 100 miles before they are exhausted.

Tigers
Every body know tigers especially in thier wildness of hunting instincts and
skill for survival and their extinction. The habitats of tigers are in Asia, Siberia and
India. And the habitats of the tigers in each place is decrease every year, like we
found in India where there are less than 3500 tigers in wild around of which 1411
are in India with its habitat falling by over 50% in last 30 years. Globally tigers
occupy less than 7% of their historical geographical landscape.
Tigers are one of the biggest among the 37 species of cats in the world today.
Tigers have very sharp teeth and very powerful claws to catch thier food such as
deers, zebras, even buffaloes and other animals to be able to survie. Althoug tigers
placed in the highest rank of predators but they also has a predator except a
human. The predator of the tigers is a lion. Lions do not eat the tigers but just kill
them to erase rivaly in catching their target. Tigers have big mouths and also have
big gums. Tigers have piericing yellow eyes that glown in the dark that are used to
hunting their food in the night.
