Yunus Emre says you can go to Hac
for thousand times if you want
but what is better than that is to
find a place in someone's heart
so he says if you want to do
something for God
love people and get loved

Yunus Emre
(1238-1320)

Yunus Emre is a poet that we, as the Turkish people, are

a
deeply proud of. He is the person, with other Bektasi
leaders, who taught a whole nation how to love people

find
and how to live together in peace with others, who
were not like them. He lived nearly eight hundred years
ago, but we don't want to forget him and his teachings.
That's why we remember him when some nationalists kill
Christians in Turkey, when somebody dies In Iraq or when
the Kurdish conflict claims people's lives.
He is the hope for peace and he is the hope for

place in
love.Like most of the Turks, when I hear Yunus Emre, the
first word that comes to my mind is "Humanism". In the last
couple centuries, "Humanism" is being replaced with a more
modern concept, "Nationalism". Nowadays, every nation is
behaving according to their own benefits which leads to
wars and pain through the World. This is why we are talking
about "Clash of civilizations" more frequently. In such an
environment, Yunus Emre's words gains more importance after

someone's
centuries. In his poems he makes us realize that we are all
the same people except the place and environment we were
born in. He tells us that the only way to understand God is
to understand ourselves by loving someone and be loved. It
is not how much we prayed or it is not which religion we
belong to. In one of his poems, he says " Let's meet, get
to know each other and love each other because this
world does not belong to any of us when we die.".It

heart
is really important that people like Yunus Emre and their
teachings are spread in today's world. Maybe the more
people understand them, the more peace and love we will
have in this beautiful planet.

Neither is yours in this village

Türkçe Saudade
A saudade é um sentimento do coração que vem da sensibilidade e não da razão.
(...) precisely is the feeling that the heart fails because it is apart from
the presence of someone or some persons whom it loves very much by affection.
Dom Duarte
Turkey… For some people it’s the image of Thanksgiving. For some people it’s a country in Middle East full of good looking girls and macho
guys. Ha! For some it’s just a funny adjective for “Coward”. But for some people it’s simply “Home”. Well, I belong to the last group as I was
born and raised in one of the most beautiful countries in the world.
When I was asked to write this short article for our brother-from-another-mother Marco, I thought this was going to be a very tough task. I was
supposed to come up with list of things we enjoy and miss about Turkey. “Man..” I said to myself, “How the heck am I going to come up with
that?” Well, now I realize that it’s a very simple task as “We” –the small Turkish Community in Indianapolis – constantly talk about it.
Sometimes the conversations get so emotional and intense that we simply end the discussions right there as we lack the energy to keep living
with amazing memories. I am sure everybody misses something different. Some miss the amazing scenery of greenest mountains surrounded
by the bluest seas. Some miss tasty home food accompanied with conversations with childhood friends. Some of us miss the simplest things,
freedom to curse while driving, chewing a big bite of “gevrek” with some Turkish Tea looking at Bosporus early in the morning. Hey, sometime
we all want to talk in Turkish with someone – I am not talking about cursing you perverts! I know it sounds rough but, we’re all concerned about
ourselves, financial stability and work here in this continent and seem to forget the others. So maybe, “sincerity” in some cases? I don’t know.
Ooops, almost forgot. The smell of the city we came from. Good or bad, it doesn’t matter. That odor is you!
But there is one thing in common that we all wish we didn’t have to leave behind. Our families and loved ones. Our families are the reason why
most of us could even dream of coming to this continent to continue our education, shape or lives and have a chance to look at life from a very
different perspective. Close your eyes and remember the first time you hugged your mom after a long vacation. Don’t you remember the
happiness running through your veins after inhaling the smell on her skin? It’s not easy being away from them. And I am sure one day or
another; we will be with them again.
What do I miss; it’s simple. I miss everything I mentioned above. Heck, it’s my article; whose ideas do you think these were?
Love you all.
Ogul-
Ogul's plain words trigger deep emotions. So, I guess now you are inna 'saudade' mood, uh?

Blue Dervish
The digital painting on the previous & the following
pages were created by processing/painting old/new
maps of the city of Istanbul. Painting in a state of
trance, Colours came out naturally here and there and
I find myself in front of newborn Entities, living a
life of their own. I realized I was painting my
perception of Istanbul's 'Kshetra' i.e. the 'fields'
of Energy radiating from this unique metropolis. The
Blue Dervish dance, bridging the material/immaterial
worlds across the Bosphorus. The Bird of Paradise
reveals its secret, while glancing at you.
My suggestion? Try to look at such paintings from the
distance, so you can get a broad general view of the
shapes/content. Then zoom in, and check out the
mosaic effects. And, naturally, if you use to
walk/drive through the streets of Istanbul everyday,
here it is a special chance for you to perceive the
hidden reality of this magic city, behind the routine
of everyday's life. Let's find the places where the
two worlds collide. Probably you want to print out
the painting/map, call your friends and take a tour
around Istanbul. Tribal Realities, anyone?
See things with different eyes. Our perception of
reality changes according to the lens we are using.
Thus, it is good to change lens from time to time,uh?
Different Perspective. Different Life!
