Installation Checklist
The Installation Team is to carry out the Installation in accordance with the Installation
Site Requirements for Flexi NS, Unpacking ATCA Cabinets and Installing ATCA
Hardware included in Nokia Siemens Networks Flexi Network Server Operating
Documentation SAE/MME User Manual.
The Installation Team Supervisor is responsible for:

Ensuring that each team member has the correct tools, installation materials,
and User Manual.

Checking the delivery against the packing list and placing it in Section 3 of the
Site Folder.

Completing this checklist including the signature and date.

Completing the necessary Site Deficiency Reports.

Completing the necessary Fault Reports.

Informing the Installation Manager/Site Manager of work progress, including


any problems as they arise.

Completing the Certificate of Completion and placing it in Section 4.14 of the


Site Folder.

Prepare for Installation


INSTALLATION PHASE

COMPLETED

Check the availability of the documents needed for installation. Record the
shortages. Acquire the missing documents.
Check the availability of the tools needed for Installation. Acquire missing
tools.

4.2

Prepare the Equipment Room


INSTALLATION PHASE

COMPLETED

Check that the installation room is clean. Check that all basic work such as
installation of lighting, fire extinguishing, and air conditioning equipment is
completed.
Check against the floor plan for the site that all cable shelves and gratings
separate from the equipment itself are ready.
Check that the ventilation equipment has been properly installed and that the
temperature in the equipment room is within the limits allowed by the system.

Check that the materials of the floors and desks in the equipment room are
anti-static (EPA). Insure anti-static wrist straps are checked and used by
Installation personnel. Provide anti-static materials and mats where
necessary.
Check the conformance of the room to the Installation floor plan drawing.
Record the differences.
Protect the gangways in the exchange room with cardboard.
Construct, measure, and mark out the positions of the cabinet (rows) and
other equipment on the floor.
Check the routes for external cabling and install cable ladders. Record the
differences to site drawings.
Make the needed additional holes in raised floors. Clean the room. Correct
installation floor plan.

4.3

Unpack and Inspect the Equipment

Visually check the transport packages for external damage. Record any
possible damage.
Remove equipment from the transport packages. Check the number of cases
against the packing list. Record shortages.
Unpack the cases.
Inspect equipment for internal or external damage. Record any possible
damage.

4.4

Install the Cabinet on earthquake based frame


INSTALLATION PHASE

Another document relevant for this task is Installing ATCA hardware


Remove the cabinet wheels properly
Install cabinet to the correct places appointed to the cabinets in the site floor
plan.
Attach the cabinet to the earthquake based frame
Bolt the cabinet firmly to the earthquake base frame.

Check to insure that isolation pads (i.e., plastic plate) are installed between
the base frame and cabinet, and that the attachment bolts have insulation
washers installed. Then tighten the bolts.
Use an ohmmeter to check that the attachment bolts are not electrically
connected to the base frame, and that no electrical conductivity exists between
the base frame and the floor.
The total leak resistance of all floor rails to the main grounding busbar must be
greater than 100k.

4.5

Check the pre-assemble components and


cablings.

Other documents relevant for this task are Installing ATCA hardware and
external cabling plan.
Check that the pre-assembled components are properly attached. The delivery
includes the following pre-assembles components:

Shelf

Power distribution units (PDUs), 2 pcs per shelf

Check that the pre-assembled internal grounding cables are properly attached.
They are connected from the shelves and from the PDUs to the cabinet
grounding rail.
Check that the internal power cables between PDUs and PEMs are properly
connected.
Check that all other pre-assembled internal cabling is properly connected.

4.6

Connect the Grounding

Connect the cabinet to the site ground.


Connect the grounding cables to the cabinet using a appropriate routing
Connect the grounding cables to each shelves
If required, use NEBS or DC/C compliant grounding
If you need to use optional DC/C complaint grounding, install the grounding
bracket to each PDU. Tighten the nuts, which are holding the grounding
bracket to 5.1Nm.

Connect the site power supply input cables to


the PDUs

Prepare the cables and connectors. Use 45 degree angle cable lugs
Connect the power supply cables (+UB and UB) to the PDU power supply
terminals and secure with the washers and nuts. Tighten the nuts to 5.1Nm.
Fasten the PDU covers in place

4.8

Test the Power supply

Ensure that the polarities of the supply lines are correct and main fuse size
Main fuse:

Switch on the site main power supply to the PDUs


Measure the input voltages to the PDUs
Measured voltage:

VDC

Switch on the circuit breakers of the PDUs


As a result, verify that:
All LEDs on the shelf alarm display, the fans and the PEMs are switched on.
Then the red out of service LEDs and hot swap LEDs will turn off.
Fans briefly spin at full speed and then the fan speed reduces to normal.
Switch off the main power supply and the circuit breakers of the PDUs before
installing the blades and other units.

4.9

Install blades and RTMs according to the


network element configuration

Check the network element configuration and slot position sticker on package
to identify the positioning of blades
Identify the individual blades and RTMs by checking the labels.

Switch off the main power supply and the circuit breakers of the PDUs before
installing the blades and other units.
Install the two AHUB3-A Hub Blades to slot 8 and 9 in the shelf.
Install the ACPI4-A CPU Blades and CPRT4-A and CPRT4-B RTMs according to
the configuration. Check that they have been installed firmly, and see that
they have been pushed all the way in and there are no misalignments.
Check that the blade and RTM handles are turned inwards and all screws have
been tightened.
Install a filler unit to every blade and RTM slot or AMC bays that do not contain
a module in the configuration. Most of the filler units are pre-installed at the
factory

4.10 Install the rear cable tray

Slide the cable tray on its support on the shelf


Secure the tray by using one M4 and one M3 screws on each side of the cable
tray

4.11 Connect the internal cables

Connect the other internal cables on the rear side of the cabinet
Connect the internal cables on the front side of the cabinet
Place all excess cable length in the cable storage shelves and cable trays, tie
the cables to bundles with cable ties and attach them to the front and rear
trays and to the walls of the cabinet

4.12 Mount the cabinet door

Determine the doors opening direction and, if necessary, change their


handedness
Verify door installation by opening and closing the doors a few times

COMMISSIONING CHECKLIST
The Commissioning Engineer is to carry out all commissioning tests in accordance with
the Flexi NS Commissioning Procedure, using the Flexi NS User Manual and other
approved reference material. Almadar-Specific Parameters are to be used where
applicable. A signed Certificate of Completion for the Commissioning work must be
included in Section 5.13 of the Site Folder, certifying that the Installation work has
been completed to the required standard. The Commissioning Engineer is responsible
for:

that DHCP is enabled.
5. Check if the Telnet server is running.

5.10 Checking unit diagnostics and working states


Check if you have the following equipment and the documents; PC for connecting Alarm printer,
MML dialog and service terminal connections, Alarm Reference Documentation, and Printouts of
Starting Phases.

If the state of the units is WO-EX, change it first to SP-EX and then to TE-EX.

Change the unit state back to the original SP or WO (ZUSC)
Test all the units and record the results.

The Flexi NS Integration Engineer is to carry out all integration and tests in accordance
with the Flexi NS User Manual and other approved Integration Procedures. The
Integration Engineer is responsible for:

Completing the necessary Fault Reports.

Informing the Project Manager of work progress, including any problems as

Flexi NS Site Folder.

Completing the Site Acceptance Certificate and placing it in Section 7 of the
