EMPLOYMENT
SPRINT NEXTEL COMMUNICATIONS, INC., Lake Mary, FL Jun 1999 – Mar 2009
Sr. Regional Switch Operations Support Manager
I formed a regional network team after assuming the role of Airgen Manager in 2001. Became
senior manager for the Southern region including managing all tower networks, I supervised
managers, projects, and project managers. Additionally, I supervised several other staff
members in the performance of my duties. When the regional team began in Florida, hired
eight employees and trained them on making network changes. Responsibilities included
coordination and tracking of projects in the Southern region and assisting in the development of
various software changes. I was responsible for keeping my labor costs within an acceptable
range.
Achievements:
• Reduced staff due to restructuring and downsizing yet able to meet deadlines while
keeping overtime to a minimum
• Implemented work from anywhere program saving company money and allowing
employees flexibility
• Developed a better tracking tool for Project Managers
• Coordinated disaster relief team and helped determine the best location logistically to
work from in support of Tropical Storm Fay
• Avoided huge corporate fines and sanctions by completing work ahead of deadline to
make frequency changes in order for first responders to have clear channels. This was
in response to a mandate by the FCC and the company did not think the deadlines
would be met.
• Reduced network errors by creating new policies requiring a review by an additional
person for all network changes.
• Core team member involved in developing the Wombat program, which is still used
today to measure staff knowledge and as a basis for promotion
I performed as test director for Software test/ evaluation services at Navtelsysic in Cheltenham,
Maryland. This involved testing communications software for the DOD. I also served as test
facilitator liaison between government representatives and the parent company. In order to
protect national security of the communications system it required finding solutions and thinking
out of the box. I Evaluated and wrote software discrepancies as necessary during testing.
Routinely developed test plans, interim and final reports. I provided formal classroom and
hands-on training at a Navy “C” school. I provided independent evaluation of the Defense
Information Systems Network (DISN). This system consisted of integration and assimilation of
many independent wide area networks (WAN’s) into a single common-user network.
