What is Start-O-Sphere?
Ideas take birth every second everywhere, but very few of them pass the test of time. Their
growth is stifled for the lack of care that cannot be achieved in silos. Recognizing the importance of these ideas at the right time and placing them in the bigger picture where they
have a crucial role to play, can make all the difference. We at Indian Institute of Management, Kozhikode understand this and wish to create a platform where these ideas get a
chance to breathe and grow. Start-o-sphere is a global entrepreneurship summit, which
will connect emerging entrepreneurs with business leaders from national and international organizations. Most importantly it will allow the budding ideas to be examined by investors who have the power to breathe life into them. Imagine start-up village, B-school
students, angel investors, VCs, industry experts and government officials under one roof in
the hallowed campus of a premier B-school- it is an idea worth rooting for!
This event will not only provide a golden opportunity to the budding entrepreneurs but
will also allow students to learn more about the burgeoning world of start-ups right from
the horses mouth. The two days will see a host of activities ranging from workshops and
panel discussions to mega events like 10 minute million. It will give a chance to the students to connect with industry gurus and indulge
in discussions with like-minded people. We just might witness the Next Big Thing that wields the power to change the world, fuel its flight
atop the picturesque green hills of IIMK.

Start-up Culture at IIMK

IIMK has always boasted of a rich entrepreneurial culture. In the current batch of 2014-16, there are
15 entrepreneur students who have already owned and managed successful companies before setting foot on the B-school soil. This number is the maximum for any batch entering an IIM. This motivation to take more risks is further nurtured by the highly dynamic Entrepreneurship Cell. The
Starters Club of the cell brings visibility to the best B-plans on campus and helps them get funded.
This entrepreneurial spirit is a tradition of sorts. For instance: Faasos, the hugely successful fast food chain was the creation of one such IIMK student. This culture is further fostered by the vibrant network of alums who have been successful in the startup space.
