Over the years I have met some wonderful
people whose lifestyle defies their age. Their
enthusiasm is amazing. Their zest for life is
contagious. Even in declining health they continue
to dream and serve. For 94 years Gene McDonald
was one of those people. His impact on Eastmont
began long before I came as pastor. All of us sit
in the shade of trees we never planted. Gene
McDonald was a spiritual gardener that planted the
gospel wherever God placed him. There are about
a dozen deacons that have profoundly shaped my
ministry. Gene is among them. God may choose to
leave you on this earth for many years. Whatever
you do dont be content to sit in rocking chairs and
watch sunsets. Continue to dream, think, enjoy the
fun, and serve.

In his humorous style, Mark Twain said,
Let us endeavor to live, that when we come to die,
even the undertaker will be sorry. Thanks Gene
McDonald for the spiritual shade we enjoy and the
1000s of acorns you planted for Christ.

I hope you enjoy your relationship with
God. Early in my Christian life I attended church
out of duty. God honored that. Then something
happened in my heart. I began to sing, give, and
serve out of delight. What a difference it has made!

We have never been a wealthy church in
terms of money. Yet with Gods blessings, your
generosity and wise management have enabled us to
become debt free. We give over $200,000 a year to
missions. I have found that giving God the first 10%
is the best investment I could ever make.
When Pat Locker and four other youth
visited me, I was only 13 years old. I hadnt been in
church in years. I remember thinking that night as
I fell asleep, Somebody cares about me. That is a
great feeling. Is there someone you ought to call,
write or visit?
