The Negative Form of Verbs


To make a verb negative, you must use 1) the conjugated form of
the verb “to do”, 2) the word not, and 3) the infinitive form of the
primary verb. For example, I do not work at the supermarket.

MOST COMMON NOUNS

The plural of most nouns is made with -s at the end of the noun.

BANANA → BANANAS SAUSAGE → SAUSAGES

EGG → EGGS CHIP → CHIPS

NOUNS ENDING WITH “Y”

Nouns ending in -y are more difficult to change. When -y is after a


consonant, make the plural by changing the -y into -ies.

STRAWBERRY → STRAWBERRIES CANDY → CANDIES

When the -y is after by a vowel, add a –s to make -ys.

DAY → DAYS BOY → BOYS

NOUNS ENDING WITH “O”

For some nouns that end in -o, add -s to make the plural. For example piano, pianos.

However. some nouns that end in –o need -es to form the plural.

POTATO → POTATOES TOMATO → TOMATOES

NOUNS ENDING WITH “-s, -a, -x, -ch, -sh”

If the noun ends with -s, -z, -x, -ch or -sh, then add -es to the noun.
