Untilrecently,mostantiballisticmaterialsthatwereusedinsuchproductsasbulletproof
jackets,explosionproofblankets,andothers,weremadeofKevlar,TwaronorDyneema

ofthebullet'sforce.
Theseproductswereasignificantstepforwardinprotectingthewearer,butoftenstillresulted

Findingtherightratioofgraphenetocarbonnanotubesisakeyfactorinthedevelopmentof
thebulletproofcomposites.Thenewgraphenecompositecaneasilybemadeusingawet
spinningmethod,producingfibreswhichhavepotentialapplicationsinbulletproofarmourand
reinforcementmaterials.

aboutthreetimesthespeedofabulletfiredfromanM16rifle.
Theresultofthesetestshaveshownthatthegraphenenanotubesabsorbtheimpactby
stretchingintoaconeshapeatthepointofthebullet'sstrike,thencrackingoutward.The
cracksthatareformedaretheoneweaknessthatthematerialshaveshowedthusfar.
However,itisimportanttonotethatdespitethisweakness,thematerialstillperformedbetter
thanKevlarandabsorbs10timesthekineticenergythatsteelcan.Itisalsoimportanttonote
thatbyassemblingmultiplelayersofthegraphenematerialorcombiningthemintoa
compositematerialcouldprovetobethesolutiontothisproblem.
Itsclearthatnanotechnologyishelpingmaterialscientistsimprovecurrentmethodsfor
