Q1. What is the several factors that encouraged the migration of
Indonesian to Malaya ?
Poverty The increasing population cause a rise in the rate of poverty besides
the variety of tax charges imposed upon them by the Dutch colonialist
Political stability and growing economy in Malaya.- Malayas economy of the tin
ore industry and plantation agriculture was growing.In addition to that,the
Malaysia was peaceful.
Indonesian traits Some of the Indonesians such as Bugis descent were skilled in
the field of sailing and business.As such they customarily travelled to other
areas.Among the Minangkabau people on the other hand,their matrilineal family
system was said to have passed on the concept of travelling among the male
membersof the community.They were also migrations due to the family
problems.
Political instability in Indonesia At that time, the Dutch colonized Indonesia.The
pressure from the colonialists and the hatred towards them were also factors that
push them to migrate to Malaysia.
Q2. During the era of early colonialist, why Malays were the poorest
compared to Chinese and Indians?
Poverty among the Malays is often related to a number of factors such as
occupation.Many of the Malays were involved in the agriculutural and traditional
industries sectors that were said to have low productivity. Some people comment
that what is done by Mlays is itself not productive in term of income
production.For instances, it os alleged that they are not using the latest
technology in production.
However, there are also allergation that the poverty of the Malays is due to the
area in which they live.Most Malays live in rural areas where the standard of
living is low. Besides that, it is said that most Malays lives in states classified as
backward.
Another related factors is that the Malays are not exposed to similar
opportunities as other communities living urban areas.This is due to the area in
which they live, which is less endowned with physical,social and economics
amenities.
In fact, poverty among Malays was also connected to the existence of
immigrant culture among the migrant community.The Immigrant Culture was
alleged to be emphasizing the importance of working hard for survival in a
foreign country thus causing the indigenous community to be left behind.
The British policies were also said to have caused economic backwardness
among Malays.The policies were dissapointeing in two aspects.First, the British
policies had ultimately left the Malays in rural area and involved in traditional
economic activities.Second,it denied the Malays an involvement in modern
economic activities largely participated by th
