Questions 36 to 40
Read the story and answer the questions that follow.
Once there was a rich and powerful king. He had only one daughter. The king was
getting old and wanted a strong wise man to marry the princess. So he announced to the people
that he would give the princess in marriage to anyone who was strong enough to remove a huge
rock on the hill near his castle.
Many strong princes from other lands came and tried to push the big rock down the hill.
None of them succeeded. Then a poor farmer approached the king and said, Oh mighty king,
the strongest men have tried to push down that rock but failed. Let me try. Ill push that rock
down at sunrise tomorrow.
The people laughed when they heard this. They would not believe that such a thin farmer
could do it when the strongest men couldnt.
When night came and all was quiet, the farmer took a big pot of oil to the hill. He poured
the oil around the huge rock and left. At sunrise, all the people gathered at the hill with the king
and princess. The farmer walked calmly towards the rock and with a single push, sent it
tumbling down the hill.
36 The king promised his daughter in
marriage to anyone who could
A
push the big rock up the hill.
B
carry the big rock up the hill.
C
carry the big rock to his castle.
D
push the big rock down the hill.
