NETWORK OF PC USING WINDOWS XP

TECHNOLOGY
AIM:
To establish network connection between pcs using
windows of XP technology.
REQUIREMENT:

Operating system.
Network cable.
RJ-45 connector.
Cripping tools.

GAINT SERVER NETWORK:


PROCEDURE:
The first step in technology networking of computer is to
make sure that they are in same domain or work group. You
cannot network two windows computer unless they have one of
these in common
PC1:
1. My computer properties computer name.
2. Change the computer name to A and work name to ABC
and click to save changes.
3. Go to the control panel network connection.
4. Right click on your LAN connection and select properties.
5. Enter these values
IP address 101.1.1.48
Subnet mask 255.255.0.0
6. Leave the other fields blanks and click OK to change.

STRAIGHT CONNECTION:

CROSS SECTION:

PC2:
1. My computer properties computer name.
2. Change the computer name to B and workgroup to ABC
and click OK.
3. Go to the control panel network connection.
4. Right click on your LAN connection and select properties.
5. Select the internet protocol properties.
6. Enter the values
IP address 101.1.1.48

Subnet mask

255.255.0.0
7. Leave the other fields blank and click OK to changes.
After the connection and settings have been saved both the
pcs should be connected by LAN. Both pcs need to be
restricted

Check if the connection is working by pinging one pc


from other
For PC1, start run end ping 192.168.0.2
For PC2, start run end ping 192.168.0.1
The pcs can be viewed in my network places. A drive on
oyher pcs can be mapped to a local drive by using my
computer tools map network drive select drive letter and
network path of the shared folder on the other PC.
To do this, right click on my computer and choose
properties and click on the computer name table. To make sure
another computer can communicate with this computer, make
sure it is also in the same work group. Just click the changes
button to do this.
STEP1: configure IP address
If you are using a crossover cable to connect two
computers, the computers are not connected to a LAN network.
In this case, you need to configure static IP address for each
computer. Make sure that both computers have IP address of
same subnet.
STEP2: cross over cable
Standard cross over cable when green and orange pairs are
swapped and the brown and blue pairs stay in the same
position is used. The pins that needed to be crossed are 1, 3
and 2, 6.
STEP3: local user accounts
If there are problems accessing files both ways create a
user account or each computer that has the same password.
Make sure the accounts are administrator accounts.
STEP4: disable firewalls

Disable firewall on both computers to ensure that one of


the files sharing parts are being locked. Do this by going the
the control panel and the windows firewall, Click on OFF.

CONNECTING TWO COMPUTERS DIRECTLY:


Sharing files and folders:
1. Open a folder. Click makes a new folder in the task panel
and name it.
2. With the new folder highlighted, click share this folder.

Enabling remove desktop on a computer running windows XP:
When you install windows XP professional, remove desktop is
enabled by default. To enable remove desktop follow these
steps.
1. Log to your windows XP professional, based computer
using an administrators.
2. Click start right click on my computers and then click
properties.
3. Click the remote tab.
4. Click the select remote users.
5. In the remotes desktop, user dialogue box click add.
6. In the select users, dialog box type name of the users or
groups to add and click advanced to search for objects.
TO ACCESS SHARED:
1. Click start my network places view workgroup
computer.
2. Click the computer whose file you wish to access and then
click the shared folder.
RESULT:

Thus the network connection between pcs using


windows XP technology has been established.
