CITY OF NEWPORT BEACH

RECREATION & SENIOR SERVICES

September 1, 2015
Dear Parent(s),
Welcome to the Fall 2015 season of Coed Youth Flag Football with the City of Newport
Beach. My name is Coach Evan. I have been working with the City for 1 year. My priority as a
coach is to ensure that every player learns new skills, makes new friends, stays active,
experiences a healthy level of competition, and has fun! The City will provide standard
equipment such as flags and balls, so its better if you go ahead and leave these items at home
so they dont get lost in the mix. As parents you can help me achieve these goals by:
Being supportive
Bringing your child to practices and games on-time
Making sure they have the proper equipment to play
o Athletic clothes (i.e. not jeans)
o Close-toed shoes
o Water to stay hydrated
In the same way I want my players to work as a team, I think it would be best for everyone
if we, too, can work together to provide the best possible experience for all involved, especially
the players. Keeping this in mind, as a coach, I think it is important to always be open to
questions and feedback. However, it is critical to be mindful of an appropriate time to address
these, such as before and after practice, so that my focus is never taken away when Im
supervising and coaching the team. To address a common concern, all parents can expect for
their child to play a minimum of one-half of each game per our minimum play rule.
As a way to strengthen the team dynamic Im also looking to have a parent step up to be
our team mom (or dad!). This person would help by creating a snack list, coordinating a phone
tree, and assembling the team before/after the game. Please contact me as soon as possible if
this is something you would be interested in doing. I look forward to a great season of flag
football!
Thank you,

Coach Evan Sickles
