Microfinance is an influential and fast-growing field in economic development. It has a record of
success in promoting financial resilience, reaching the excluded, empowering women and
developing the capacity of small groups of people to take control of their own lives.
Corporate Bureau Limited in partnership with the Microfinance Association and the Marconi
University of UK wish to invite you to the professional certified Programme in microfinance
course. This is a global programme for the microfinance sector. The qualification CMP provides a
route for students to gain a deep understanding of microfinance.
The certificate in Microfinance provides a broad based, practical introduction to the key ideas,
techniques and skills needed to be a microfinance practitioner. The certificate is ideally suited to the
needs and aspirations of both those who are new to microfinance, and those who need a wider
understanding of the sector. The programme is flexible and allows you to fit your studies around
your work and social commitments. Students can enroll for the course at any time in the year. The
programme can be completed within three months. We are currently enrolling students for our
Saturday tuition.
The programme has been developed by a group of practitioners with over twenty five years
experience in the microfinance sector. We are confident that the knowledge that you will gain by
undertaking this course will enhance your career and professional development. This is a project
based course aimed at giving students an overview of the key issues involved in the design,
management, and evaluation of microfinance programmes that target low-income microentrepreneurs and households.
The course assignments teaches practical skills and critical thinking about the major debates in the

pyramid approaches to doing business with dual social and financial goals, i.e. doing well while
doing good. The course also provides knowledge of the components of the microfinance industry
and gives students an understanding of the current issues affecting the industry today.
At the end of the course students will understand:
The financial needs of the worlds poor and how poor households manage finances;
How microfinance fits into the development industry and the broader financial system;
How financial products and services are provided by a range of institutions;
The successes and limitations of microfinance in reaching and impacting the poor;
How investors evaluate microfinance institutions as a commercial opportunity;
The basics of how microfinance is addressed from a policy or regulatory standpoint;
How to analyze and compare the performance of microfinance institutions in terms of both
a financial and social bottom line, and
Trends and innovations in microfinance, including a look at whats next for the industry and
its implications on the future of international development as a whole.

Duration:
This is a three month programme.
Date: The programme is all year round. Admission is ongoing for 2014 intake. The programme is
currently accepting admissions for seven continuous Saturday sessions. You can contact us to

Fee
GH 1,296.00 per student includes certification from Marconi University-UK upon successful
completion, course materials, snacks. Early bird of 5% first 20 applicants. Registration form cost

The modules are based on a set of readings and are intended to give you an overview of the topic
and acquaint you with current research. Reading materials have been selected to assist you in
understanding the key issues. Students are encouraged to undertake other forms of research.
