REPORT ON ACEDEMIC VISIT TO BANK NEGARA

MALAYSIA MUSEUM AND ART GALLERY

14 August 2015, Selangor - Student of Bachelor in Islamic Finance (BANKING), Faculty of
Management and Muamalah, International Islamic University College Selangor (KUIS) under
the course Legal Aspect in Banking Practice (BMBL 5003) held a visit to Bank Negara Malaysia
Museum and Art Gallery is housed in the Sasana Kijang building located on Jalan Dato Onn,
Kuala Lumpur. Among the objectives of the visit was to study in depth the state of the banking
system in particular bank, to expose the students to the concept and banking operations from a
legal perspective in relation to the case and its use in the banking industry, to introduce to the
students how banks in Malaysia operate under legally in Malaysia and to expose students to the
practical running of the bank.
The program involves the participation of 15 students from Bachelor of Islamic Finance
(Banking) Semester 7 and 52 students from the Diploma of Islamic Finance (Banking) Semester
5 and 6 under the course Legal Aspect in Banking Practice, and accompanied by two lecturers
Miss Surianom Binti Miskam and Madam Norazla Binti Abdul Wahab. The program starts from
2.50pm until 5.00pm. Students and lecturers had given cooperation about information on the
whole on Bank Negara Malaysia Museum and Art Gallery from Sir Afizal Azizzan, Visitor
Service Officers of Sasana Kijang.
After briefing session, the students and lectures visit to the Childrens Gallery, Bank Negara
Malaysia Gallery, Islamic Finance Gallery, Economic Gallery, Numismatics Gallery and Art
Gallery. The Sasana Kijang building is spread over four levels. One of the most striking features
in Sasana Kijang is the Nautilus Staircase that begins from the lobby and links every floor. This
structure is the inspiration for the main graphic icon. We also experience the RM1 Million
Tunnel with its variety of Malaysian banknote denominations and series in the Childrens
Gallery.
The Economic Gallery shows us how economic policies affect the development of the nation and
explore Malaysias economic progress from independence to the present day. We also learn about

the important role and responsibilities of Central Bank of Malaysia in maintaining the financial
and economic health of the country in the Bank Negara Malaysia Gallery. We also explore early
Islamic concepts of commerce and finance, which began in the Middle East, extended to Europe
and now influences the entire world from the Islamic Finance Gallery. The Art Gallery provides
a rotating display of the Central Bank of Malaysias art collection. The students also play the
Barter Trade game, explore the unique River of Coins and see the display of world banknotes
from the Numismatics Gallery.
At the end of the program, the students have responded positively about the organization of the
program this time. Through this program, students have been learning about the history of
currency in Malaysia and other countries, as well as its function and role of Bank Negara
Malaysia. Overall, this programme have managed to achieve objectives that had set in giving
actual picture on subject theory discussed in lecture room.
