Pink Tractor stealing hearts near and far

The Pink Tractor project was
started two years ago by Northwest
Farm Credit employees who
volunteered 100% of the efforts with
the sole purpose of raising awareness
and money for cancer research for
the communities and people whom
it serves.
The tractor was found and
completely restored within 30 days
so it could attend its first function
in 2013. Since then it has logged
thousands of miles as it travels

across Montana, Idaho, Oregon and

Washington where it has been a hit
at numerous events.
The Northwest Farm Credit
Pink Tractor, a 1958 International
300, was a hot-pink topic at the
Northeast Montana Fair on August
3rd and 4th, but the day before,
the Pink Tractor was in Preston,
Idaho over 680 miles away! While
people oodled and awed at the fully
restored Pink Tractor, it raised over
$1,500 from t-shirt and hat sales

that was donated to the Northeast

Montana Relay for Life, bringing the
total donation to over $2,000 from
the Glasgow branch.

The tractor was also used before
the start of the Demolition Derby
to tow cancer survivors around the
berm and honor their individual
journeys against cancer.

Keep an eye out for this classic
Pink Tractor as it continues its
adventures across Montana and the
Northwest U.S.!

Mrs.
Cameron,
a
primary teacher, was teaching
her class about the difference
between right and wrong.

"All right class, let's take
an example," Mrs Cameron
said. "If I were to get into a
man's pocket and take his
wallet with all his money, what
would I be?"
Little Tony raises his hand,
and with a confident smile
says, "You'd be his wife."

Complete with leather jacket and a do rag, Maxine Nicol of Nashua hopped on the

Why Are Harley-Davidson Motorcycles called Hogs?

It is believed that the term "hog,"
in referring to a Harley-Davidson
motorcycle, traces back to the early 1920s.
The official Harley-Davidson company
racing team of that era was known as the
"Wrecking Crew" because of their nearly
total domination of the dirt track races
they entered.

But the team of farm boys (including
Ray Weishaar) became known as the "hog
boys" because an additional member of
the team (a mascot, not a racer) was a
small pig. Whenever a Wrecking Crew
team member won a race, he stopped to
pick up the pig, put it on the gas tank,
and took it with him for a victory lap.
After a while, race fans and some in the
media began to informally refer to the
team as the "Harley Hogs." Over time,
the "Wrecking Crew" moniker stuck and
people stopped referring to the team as
the Harley Hogs.
However, as the "Harley Hogs"
nickname faded, the word "hog" stuck

as the slang term among enthusiasts

for a Harley-Davidson motorcycle.
The 3rd Edition of the Dictionary of
American Slang even contains an entry
for "hog" as being a "1960s motorcycle
or motorcyclist" with a following
entry mentioning Harley-Davidson
by name. The word then became more
official in 1983 when the world's first
factory-sponsored motorcycle club
appeared. The choice must have been
obvious: The Harley Owners Group,
or HOG.
Harley-Davidson attempted to
trademark "hog", but lost a case against an
independent Harley-Davidson specialist,
The Hog Farm of West Seneca, NY, in
1999 when the appellate panel ruled
that "hog" had become a generic term
for large motorcycles and was therefore
unprotectable as a trademark.
On August 15, 2006, Harley
Davidson Inc. had its NYSE ticker
symbol changed from HDI to HOG.
