Cinematography:

Beginning starts off with a typical long shot to


establish the scene. Adhering to the conventions of a
rock genre promo, is the use of many close ups of the
band, providing utmost attention towards them to add
memorability of the band and increasing sales. Low
angles are again used like many other promos,
creating an atmosphere as if you were in a concert.

Editing:
Rock genres typically aim for the more realistic approach to promos, however in
this music promo, they have subverted hegemonic ideas of rock bands and
added some special effects in post-production of the video; creating an old film
type look. The music itself is fast paced and so as normally seen the rhythm of
the beat matches the amount of cuts used. In this case the promo is fast paced.
The cuts in many areas of the video creates a montage, adding effect to the song
and making it more exciting to the viewers.
Mise-en-scene:
Adhering to rock genre conventions, the
band are wearing dark clothing to match to
mood of the song. The lighting is also dull
and opposite of being vivid in Hip-hop
promos. Instruments are highlighted
throughout the music promo to oppose the
unrealistic feel created by the filter and so
in a way still adhering to rock genre
conventions.
Narrative and Performance:
In this case performance is highly used, focusing all attention to the band making
them emphasised enough to sell to larger audiences as it is shared across the
media. In relation to Andrew Goodwins theory of different approaches to music
videos, this promo is a mixture of amplification and disjuncture. At the beginning
the vocalist makes it clear that he is walking on a lonely road, in which is shown
through the visuals.
