required to empower the students as protectors of the

Academicians and Research Scholars to have an
insight into the current problem of the world.
ABOUT THE COLLEGE
St.Charles College of Education is an
Institution of the society of St.Charles, Madurai
belonging to the congregation of the sisters of
St.Charles Borromeo.
“Imparting Christian Education through all
our ministries” being the part of the charism of the
congregation, this institution insists on the
importance of inculcating spiritual values such as
faith in God, in others and in one self.
Principles of respecting human rights, justice
and equalities are upheld. Appreciating the entire
creation and acknowledging the Fatherhood of God
and Brotherhood of man are highly valued. The
institution aims at forming professionally efficient
and personally convinced ladies who will enlighten
and empower the poor and the marginalized of the
society to build a secular and peaceful nation, as
depicted in the emblem of the college.
OBJECTIVES OF THE SEMINAR
ABOUT THE SEMINAR
The alarming news about global warming has
exposed enormously the acute problems that will
affect the earth such as Climate change, massive
water crisis, consequent diseases, Extinction of living
species, etc.,
The question is, should we really wait for the
catastrophe before we do something or should we
start acting immediately to prevent the big dangers
that threaten the human race?. In answer to this
question, a passionate band of teachers and student
teachers of SCCE have planned a day’s programme
on “The teacher competencies required to empower
the younger generation to be protectors of the earth?.”
The common learning strategies include the
concept of thinking out aloud and problem based
learning and therefore the day’s programme includes,
multiple means through which the teachers and the
‘would be teachers’ will be convinced by the fact
that, ‘it is every citizen’s duty to protect the earth and
it is possible to do it’.
 To develop an awareness of environment &
sensitivity to the total environment and its
allied problems.
 To help in acquiring knowledge and variety
of experience of the environment &
associated problems.
 To help in acquiring skills for identifying &
solving the problems.
 To develop attitudes, a set of values &
feelings of concern for the achievement &
encouragement or motivation for active
participation in protection & improvement
of environment.
 To develop an ability for evaluating
environmental components and educational
programmes in terms of ecological, social,
economic, cultural, aesthetic & educational
factors.
 To develop skills, attitudes, feelings &
values needed to play a productive role in
improving life & values.
