CATECHISTS NEEDED

We are still in need of 3rd and 4th grade catechists for Sunday
morning PSR from 9-9:45 am, and 8th grade catechists on
Wednesday evenings. Without enough volunteers, we will not
be able to have PSR classes. Please consider volunteering to
become a catechist or co-catechist (team teach with another)
and sharing our Catholic faith with the children in our parish.
Please call Michelle Puckett at 620.724.4364 for more
information.

VIRTUS TRAINING
VIRTUS training for catechists, parents & volunteers will be
held Monday, Sept. 14 at 7pm at St. Francis parish in St. Paul
in the basement of the rectory. The session will be facilitated
by Pat Westhoff. Anyone who volunteers in parish activities
where they will be around our youth must attend a VIRTUS
session and have a background check completed. Our diocese
is committed to maintaining a safe environment for all youth.
Thank you for your support and involvement in the future of
our church!

NATIONAL CATHOLIC YOUTH CONFERENCE

CONFIRMATION CLASSES

Please pray for parishioners Ron Breneman, Gerald Davied,

Margaret OToole, Rosemary OToole, Bernadine Shively,
Stan Thomas and Tom Weston who are ill, and for former
parishioner John Doherty who is in the hospital.

There are still spots available for high-school youth interested

in attending the National Catholic Youth Conference (NCYC)
in November at Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis, IN, Nov.
19-22. NCYC is an exciting, four-day experience of prayer,
community, and empowerment. There are also opportunities
for liturgy and special activities such as concerts, exhibits, and
an activity village. NCYC is only four days, but it can be a
catalyst for stronger faith growth that can only be sustained in
a strong faith community. If you are interested, please call
Michelle Puckett at 620.238.0428.

Dear Parish Family;

I would like to devote this column to our students of both Arma and
Girard. We are starting a new academic year. This is a good
opportunity to reflect on the gifts of thought and reason which God
has given to us and the gift of an education which millions of our
ancestors did not have. Since knowledge is precious, and ignorance
can be deadly, we must resolve to take full advantage of this gift of
education. A good education squandered in youth is very difficult to
make up for as an adult. And cramming all night before a major test
usually produces dim results. Therefore let us decide now to be
studious students, determined to study and learn. There of course is
nothing wrong with fun and games, but only after our scholastic
duties are done. We must remember that God wants us to be smart
Catholics, well educated and equipped mentally to spread his
kingdom. It does not please God if we keep ourselves ignorant either
deliberately or through sloth. God gave us a mind; he wants us to
strengthen it. So let us always put homework ahead of video games
and our favorite band. We will enjoy them more anyway if all of our
academic duties are finished. Know that
all of you students and your families will
be in my prayers during this entire
academic year!
