Homework Response 2 - Research

UWRT 1104

Research can be defined as looking for facts or information in hopes to prove a point or reach a
conclusion.
Research comes in many different forms. Research could range from someone recording results
from a survey to someone reading encyclopedias.
The purpose of research is to acquire knowledge about something. Research also helps you to be
able to describe a position or experience.
Rhetorical Awareness - Being aware of or having knowledge of the effective use of language.
Critical Reflection - A severe or deep careful consideration.
Knowledge of Conventions To know the surface features of writing. That includes mechanics,
usage, and the formation of sentences.
Composing Processes - The procedure of putting a text together.
Critical Reading - Reading with a deeper understanding of the text; such as looking for reasons the
author wrote the way he did.
Research would be important when trying to find out the right rhetorical strategies to hold your
audiences attention. All these concepts must be used at some point to craft an effective piece of
writing. For example, when writing you have to be aware of the rhetorical strategies used, and the
formation of sentences in order to reach your audience.
