Welcome
Irma

Always dispose of properly in a Sharps container

or a homemade sharps containerexample, empty milk bottle or coffee
can.
Dispose of sharps in the
containeronce full, tape container
closed and put in the trash. If you
attempt to recap the sharps (lancet
or syringe) you risk sticking
yourself.
Re-sheathing (or recapping) a needle is the most
common cause of needle stick injuries to health
care providers.
Always wear gloves when handling sharps.
Always hold the syringe or lancet from the
bottom and carefully put in your sharps
container.
Keep yourself safe from the possibility of
contracting a blood borne disease. If you get a
needle stick injury, wash the injured area
thoroughly with warm water and disinfectant
then contact us. Inform your client of injury. A
needle stick injury is a serious matter that can
expose you to disease and will require you to get
costly medical follow-up care.
If you find yourself in a home without proper
equipment, please contact Mary in the office at
203-634-8668.

Parkinsons Disease
Parkinsons disease is a chronic,
progressive (which means
symptoms may get worse as time
goes by) disorder in which
dopamine levels in your brain
decline over time. Dopamine is the
messenger in your brain partly
r e s po ns i bl e f o r c o nt r ol l i n g
movement and coordination in your
body. It is used to send messages to
your muscles to make them move
correctly.
In Parkinsons disease, the nerve
cells that produce dopamine are
damaged and unable to produce
enough dopamine for normal
movement.

environmental and genetic factors

that may contribute to the
development of the disease.
Signs and symptoms may include:

Loss of automatic movementsDe crea se d abilit y to pe rfor m

unconscious movements such as
blinking or smiling.
Speech changes- Speech may become
soft or slurred.

Tremor- Of the hand or limb.

Slowed MovementSuch as
shorter steps when walking or
difficulty getting out of a chair.
Rigid Muscles- Stiff muscles that
may limit range of motion.
Posture may become stooped or
balance may be impaired.

Medications can greatly reduce these

symptoms. They may increase or
substitute for dopamine in turn helping
to send messages to the muscles.
If your client has Parkinsons disease
and is experiencing any new changes
and you need assistance or questions
answered, please contact the office.
