Write about the following topic:

the birth rate in most developed countries is predicted to begin to fall over the next 50
years. By 2030 it is estimated that over one third of the population in most developed
countries will be aged 65 and over. What effects will these predictions have on
developed countries if they prove true? What can be done now to deal with this
situation?
give reasons for your answer and include any relevant examples from your own
knowledge or experience. You should write at least 250 words.
Nowadays, the biggest and richest nations in the world are estimated to face a real
problem in the future that is the fall of birth-rate. Indeed, this phenomenon is already
born although it doesnt seem dangerous yet. But statistics predict that by 2030 the
number of people aged 65 and over will have reached about 34% of the entire world
population. In other words this means that there will be much more elderly people
than young people. But why is this going on? There are many relevant factors and In
my opinion they are all linked to the economic system of these developed countries.
Modern society is essentially based on economic development, work and technology.
World wide nations are always becoming more and more competitive and thats why
corporations, agencies, etc need so many qualified workers. Because of this, women
and men need to study and work hard to reach high levels in the world of work since
they are young.
in addition, its difficult for a pregnant woman or for a mother to get a job because
they arent considered efficient but just a problem for the economy. For instance, my
aunt has been redundant because she was pregnant. In order to avoid these
situations, women and men dont settle down and they are more independent and
interested in their jobs especially now that it is going on the economical crysis.
the increasing of over aged people will bring to so many effects. First of all,
governments will provide a more efficient sanitary organization because more people
will need assistance. Maybe public sanitary wont exist no more because it will need
too many taxes. Anyway, taxes for young people will dramatically raise up as well as
young disoccupation, because old workers are more expert. Finally, the official
retirement age is likely to change and it will increase. These are all the possible
negative sides of the phenomenon; on the other hand, it is certain to be also many
developments in medicine, biotechnologies, artificial births, etc in order to improve
lifes wealth. To outline, I am not sure that there are real solutions to this problem
because the system that powers up everything is too strong and it isnt certain to
change.
