Overview
Huawei is a leading global information and communications technology (ICT) solutions provider, serving
45 of the worlds top 50 telecom operators. Through continuous customer-centric innovation, Huawei
responds quickly to customers needs with a comprehensive, customized set of offerings. Huaweis
products and solutions are deployed in over 140 countries, supporting the communications needs of
one-third of the worlds population. As of June 2011, Huawei has over 120,000 employees, 53,000 of
whom are engaged in R&D.
Huawei is privately held and is fully owned by its employees. Since 1997, Huawei has undertaken
management transformation benchmarked against industry best practices, having worked with IBM, Hay
Group, PricewaterhouseCoopers, Fraunhofer-Gesellschaft, and Accenture, in areas such as corporate
management, human resources management, employee shareholding plans, financial management, and
quality control.
In the first half of 2011, Huawei recorded revenues of USD $15.2 billion, a year-on-year increase of 11%.

Commitment to Innovation
44% of Huaweis employees are engaged in R&D activities and Huawei invests an average of 10% of its
annual revenues into R&D. As part of a worldwide integrated product development processes, Huawei
operates a global network of 15 regional headquarters, 20 R&D centres, 20+ innovations centres jointly
operated with customers, and 36 training centres.
In line with its commitment to protect intellectual property rights, Huawei was the second largest Patent
Cooperation Treaty applicant in 2009, with 1,847 filings, according to the United Nations World
Intellectual Property Organization. By the end of December 2010, Huawei had applied for a total of
49,040 patents, of which 17,765 have been granted in aggregate.
Huawei also drives the development of industry standards through active participation in 136
standardization organizations, holding 180+ positions, and filed over 25,000 standards proposals in
aggregate.
