Incumbent serves as Driver for Anderson Municipal Transit and is responsible for operating a bus along a predetermined route in a safe,
timely, and courteous manner for conveyance of passengers.
DUTIES

Checks bus for any irregularities at start of shift and ensures that windshields and mirrors are clean.

Makes change for customers and maintains level of change to perform this function.

Assists elderly and handicapped passengers boarding and deboarding and seats passengers with bulky packages.

Responds to any inquiries from passengers concerning transfers, routes and general information.

Maintains constant awareness of traffic and road conditions and any irregularities in bus performance.

Notifies CATS Garage of any needed repairs on buses either by phone in case of major breakdown or through work orders if
the bus is operable.

May operate Nifty Lift vehicle as assigned.

May assist at Bus Terminal.

Performs related duties as assigned.

Maintains log showing starting and ending mileage and fare box readings and ridership information such as number of paying
customers, transfer customers, and special program customers.

I. SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE


Must possess a Commercial Drivers License with Public Passenger endorsement.
Ability to legally operate assigned vehicle.

Ability to perform physical requirements of duties including normal vision/corrected.

Ability to operate a bus safely and efficiently.

Knowledge of traffic and safety laws and regulations as they pertain to public passenger conveyance.

Ability to read and write and make basic arithmetic computations.

Ability to handle money and make change.

Knowledge of City and all bus routes for substitution as well as providing transfer information to passengers.

Ability to deal with the public and handle disturbances as they arise.

Ability to operate a two-way radio.

II. RESPONSIBILITY
Incumbent drives assigned route daily and deviates from route only in the event of road closings. Spot checks conducted occasionally.

Customer complaint system allows for feedback on driver performance. Reports directly to Street Supervisor/Dispatcher.
III. PHYSICAL EFFORT
Incumbent operates bus, opening door, stopping, starting, and turning in various driving conditions. Visual activity and limited manual dexterity
involved in operating a bus. May require moderate to heavy lifting for short periods of time in operation of wheelchair lifts.
IV. WORKING ENVIRONMENT
Incumbent operates bus in varied weather conditions, Environment controlled inside bus, however, duties may require incumbent to
occasionally deboard. Exposed to normal danger involved in working daily in traffic.
Special Requirements
MUST have CDL - with Public Passenger endorsement.
