Optimal Solution.To find
another optimal solution,put
x2 asenteringvariable in row2.
Z=2,X1=1/2,X2=0

Z=2,X1=1/3,X2=2/3

Since both optimal solutions on same iso-profit line and average of given two solutions will give the third
optimal solutions. New Third Optimal Solution is Z=2, X1=5/12,X2=1/3

After

evaluating all basic solutions, it is found that optimal basic feasible solution with maxz corresponds to
x1=0,x2=100,z=100 (Basic Variables:x2,s1)

Problem 5:

Solution:
For given Giapetto Problem,
Z=180, x1=20, x2=60 is optimal solution corresponding to Z=3x1+2x2. So isoprofit line for varying values of
profit of trains is 3x1+c2x2=z. This has slope -3/c2.
Case (i) From below graph, If slope of isoprofit line is <-2, then Point C is optimal. Therefore, if -3/c2<-2 which is
equal to c2<1.5, then the current basis is no longer optimal.

Case (ii) Also if the slope of the isoprofit line is >-1 Point A will be optimal. Thus if -3/c2>-1 which is equal to c2>3,
then the current basis is no longer optimal.
Conclusion: Thus for 1.5c23 the current basis remains optimal.
If the contribution to profit for trains is $2.50, then the optimal solution would be:
For c2 = 2.5 x1 = 20, x2 = 60, but z = 3(20) + 2.5(60) = $210.

Problem 6:

Solution:
Dorian Auto Problem Objective function and constraints are as follows:
Minz=50x1+100x2
7x1+2x2>=28(High income Women Viewers) (HIW)
2x1+12x2>= 24(High Income Men Viewers) (HIM)
x1, x2>= 0
where X1=number of 1-minute comedy ads purchased
X2= number of 1-minute football ads purchased.
Optimal Solution : Z=320,x1=3.6,x2=1.4

From graphical analysis: we get the following:

a) Range of values on the cost of comedy:

For given objective function, if the cost of comedy is varying, then objective function looks like Z=c1X1+100X2.
So the slope of isocost line is (-c1/100)
For the current basis to be optimal, slope of iso-cost line should lie between HIM and HIW that is
7/2-c1/100-1/6 equals to 50/3c1350.
b) Range of values on the cost of football:

For given objective function, if the cost of football is varying, then objective function looks like Z=50X1+c2X2.
So the slope of isocost line is (-50/c2)
For the current basis to be optimal, slope of iso-cost line should lie between HIM and HIW that is
-7/2-50/c2-1/6 or 100/7c2300.
c) 7x1+2x2>=28(High income Women Viewers) (HIW)
The optimal solution lies at x1=3.6,x2=1.4 z=320.
Now to find range of values for HIW exposure under current optimal basis, we decrease HIW requirement,
optimal solution moves towards (0, 2), Where HIW requirement is 2(2) = 4 million and if we further decrease, the
value of X will be less than 0. Similarly, if we Increase HIW requirement and optimal solution moves towards (12,
0) where HIW requirement = 7(12) = 84million. and if we further increase, the value of x2 will be less than zero
under binding conditions. Thus current basis remains optimal for 4,000,000HIW Requirement84,000,000.
Now, If HIW = 28 +, the optimal solution is where
7x1 + 2x2 = 28 + and
2x1 + 12x2 = 24.
Solving the above two equations yields: x1 = 3.6 + .15 and x2 = 1.4 -.025.
d) c) 2x1+12x2>=24(High income Men Viewers) (HIM)
The optimal solution lies at x1=3.6, x2=1.4 z=320.
Now to find range of values for HIM exposure under current optimal basis If we decrease HIM requirement
optimal solution moves towards (4, 0) where HIM requirement is 2(4) = 8million and if we further decrease, the
value of x2 will be less than 0. Similarly, if we increase HIM requirement and optimal solution moves towards (0,
14) where HIM requirement = 14(12) = 168million. if we further increase, the value of x1 will be less than zero
under binding conditions.
Thus current basis remains optimal for 8,000,000HIM Requirement168,000,000.
If HIM = 28 +, the optimal solution is where

7x1 + 2x2 = 28 and

2x1 + 12x2 = 24 +.
Solving the above equation yields x1 = 3.6 - /40 and x2 = 1.4 + 7/80.
e) If HIW requirement is 28 +,
7x1+2x2=28+
2x1+12x2=24
Therefore = 50x1 + 100x2 = 320 + 5
so HIW shadow price is -5 (thousand).
Now, If HIM requirement is 24 + ,
7x1+2x2=28,
2x1+x2=24+
Therefore = 50x1 + 100x2 = 320 + 7.5,
so HIM shadow price is -7.5(Thousand).
f) if HIW =26,
then 7x1+2x2=26 which can be written as 7x1+2x2=28+(-2,
so from part (e), New Z=320+5*(-2) =310thousand dollars=$310,000
