SPECIAL EVENTS

THE KEEPING ROOM (2015)

Playing from 10/16 - 10/22
In this radically reimagined American Western set towards
the end of the Civil War, Southerner Augusta (Brit Marling,
Arbitrage, The East) encounters two renegade, drunken soldiers
(Sam Worthington, Avatar & Kyle Soller, BBCs Poldark)
who are on a mission of pillage and violence. After escaping an
attempted assault, Augusta races back to the isolated farmhouse
that she shares with her sister Louise (Hailee Steinfeld, True
Grit, Pitch Perfect 2) and their female slave Mad (newcomer
Muna Otaru.) When the pair of soldiers track Augusta down
intent on exacting revenge, the trio of women are forced to take
up arms to fend off their assailants, finding ways to resourcefully
defend their homeand themselvesas the escalating attacks
become more unpredictable and relentless.
Based on Julia Harts revered 2012 Black List screenplay, and
directed by Academy Award Nominated Daniel Barber (Harry
Brown), THE KEEPING ROOM is a tense and uncompromising tale of survival that also shatters both gender and genre
conventions.

BRAIN DAMAGE (1988, 35mm)

Director Frank Henenlotter in person!
Brian meets Aylmer, a mysterious, ancient, snake-like (ok,
phallic) parasitic creature that lives off of brain juice, which it
consumes by poking a fang into the hosts spine. The reward (or
bait) that Aylmer offers for his meals is an overpowering colorsoaked mind-trip that proves to be quite addictive. Gory, goopy,
and hilarious, BRAIN DAMAGE is also somehow personal and
touching.

BACK TO THE FUTURE PART II (1989)

Great Scott! Weve partnered with Universal on an exclusive
BACK TO THE FUTURE II pint glass featuring artwork by
Mondo and artist Tom Whalen. You can only purchase your
glass with your ticket to this screening!
COMMANDO (1985)
Celebrate 30 years of COMMANDO and the launch of NECAs
brand new Schwarzenegger figure!
Decades before Liam Neeson played the cunning, badass dad
who sets out to find his kidnapped daughter in TAKEN, Arnold
Schwarzenegger was John Matrix, a retired Delta Force colonel
whose new calm life of ice cream eating and deer feeding is
interrupted when mercenaries kidnap his daughter (played by
Alyssa Milano!!). Springing into action and armed to the teeth
with automatic rifles, a rocket launcher and biceps, Matrix takes
down the mercenaries one by one, punctuating each encounter
with one-liners that many of us now use in our daily lives.
GOODFELLAS DINNER PARTY
Celebrate the 25th anniversary of GOODFELLAS with a
screening of the new 4K restoration!
Our Goodfellas Dinner Party will serve you a platter of delicious Italian dishes inspired by the film, including a bright
Caprese tomato salad, an Olive Salad with Roasted Garlic Bulb,
Baked Ziti with housemade pork sausage and a rich tomato
sauce, finishing up with a creamy, light tiramisu.
THE ROCKY HORROR PICTURE SHOW
SING-ALONG (1973)

(and mommy) of interactive movies has incorporated new
breakthroughs, elusive ingredients, and that...SPARK!, which

CHILLS AND THRILLS ALL MONTH LONG

CARRIE (1976)
Enduring the humiliation that is the true stuff of teenage girl
nightmares - public shame for getting your period - Carrie is
constantly on the receiving end of her classmates pranks. At
home she is taunted with religious nonsense and talk of dirty
pillows, so whats a girl to do but transfer all that rage into
telekinetic powers? This film is so effectively terrifying, repeat
viewings wont numb you to it.
DISMEMBER THE ALAMO (35mm)
Presented by the American Genre Film Archive!
Every good dose of horror deserves a sequel. Thats why were
bringing you a four horror movie marathon, this time on
Halloween proper for maximum ghoulishness! All titles will be
in 35mm, and once again be secret until the projector rolls. All
well tell you is dont expect the obvious! In addition to the killer
move line-up, well have 35mm trailers, food & drink specials
and a costume contest, so be sure to dress to unrest!
DRACULA (1931)
Introduced by Ken Hanley, whose monster self-help book
The I in Evil comes out this month.
Handsome, mysterious and alluring, Lugosis Dracula was
at once so sexy and so haunting that audiences gasped when
he first opened his mouth to speak. After a half-year run on
Broadway, Dracula toured the United States to much fanfare
and critical acclaim throughout 1928 and 1929. There have
been many portrayls of Dracula since and even a few before, but
none as iconic as Bela Lugosis.
GHOSTBUSTERS (1984)
Spectre-destroyers Murray, Aykroyd, Ramis and the vastly
under-appreciated Hudson collectively defined everything we
enjoy in 80s cinema, unleashing a supernatural adventure that
busts funnybones as well as ghosts. Together, the four hopped
in a converted ambulance and made an entire decade safe for
hilarity, action, and transdimensional demon combat. This
special Movie Party Screening features a gorgeous new digital
restoration while simultaneously singing the theme song loud
and proud and quoting along with all of your favorite lines.
THE HAUNTING (1963)
No one lives in the 90-year-old Hill House. Or so it seems. But
come in. Four people come to the house to study its supernatural phenomena. Or has the house drawn at least one of them to
it? Indisputably one of the best haunted house films ever made,
THE HAUNTING is still capable of genuinely frightening an
audience with its masterful use of suggestion and atmosphere.
Victory Screening: KILL BILL VOL I (2003)
Alamo Victory members are invited to this FREE screening!
To sign up for Victory, visit drafthouse.com/victory.
To reserve tickets, you must be logged into your Victory account!
Maybe Tarantinos most ambitious effort, the KILL BILL films
are one of the most audacious odes to cinema an American filmmaker has ever made. Told in two very similar, yet completely
different volumes, the story is about The Bride and her quest for
revenge on those who tried to murder at her own wedding. Her
survival is unknown to them, which leads to one surprising and
action-filled confrontation after another.

CHILLS AND THRILLS ALL MONTH LONG

THE MUTILATOR (1984, 35mm)

Co-presented by Arrow Films!
Easily one of the most deranged trash-slashers of 1984, THE
MUTILATOR is a feel-bad, coming-of-age violence machine
that lives up to its name ten times over. And its a tale as old as
time. When a little kid accidently shoots his mom in the back
with a rifle, his Dad flips out and sets Moms corpse against the
couch. Then Dad sips a cocktail. Ten years later, Dad asks the
now-grown-up kid -- and five of his friends -- to close up the
familys tacky beach-side condo for the autumn season. And
thats when the medieval hatchet shows up.
SCREAM (1996, 35mm)
It may be a little too clot with blood now to see -- given the less
than killer sequels and the countless copycat teen horror flicks
in the late 90s/2000s -- but SCREAM was groundbreaking for
the horror genre upon its release in 1996. Heavily influenced
by slashers of the late 70s/80s it singlehandedly ushered in the
return of the popular horror sub-genre. This was a film written
by a gore geek about gore geeks getting killed by gore geeks
because they had watched too many scary movies...

Mondo X Chiller: ARMY OF DARKNESS (1992)

Featuring a limited Mondo giveaway!
Cult superstar Bruce Campbell reunites with director Sam
Raimi to battle the deadly forces of evil in this outrageous, effects-fueled action epic that will make you scream with fear and
laughter. Forced to lead a makeshift Dark Ages army against the
demonic Deadites, who possess all the deadly magic of hell, the
shotgun-toting, chainsaw-armed, reluctant 20th century time
traveler Ash (Campbell) must save the living from the dead,
rescue his medieval girlfriend and get back to his own time.
Monday Night Thread Up:
DEAD HEAT (1988, 35 mm)
DEAD HEAT starts out as a crime flick, turns into a schlocky
zombie movie and then becomes a race against time, with cop
Roger Mortis (Treat Williams) being killed while pursuing an
evil Vincent Price (in one of his final screen roles) only to be
reanimated giving him twelve hours to solve his murder with
the aid of his partner played by Joe Piscopo before he decomposes. Its brash, politically incorrect, gory genre cinema that
just happens to feature reanimated frozen chickens.
AGFA Presents:
DEMON WITCH CHILD (1975, 35mm)
Introduced by Temple of Schlocks Chris Poggiali.
A butt-ugly ol witch, suspected of kidnapping a baby for human sacrifice, is brought to the local police station for questioning. Threatened with truth serum to reveal the location of the
child, the witch kills herself by diving out the nearest window.
Seeking revenge, the witchs coven places a curse on the police
commissioners daughter -- and its only a matter of time before
the cursing and levitating begins. This grim shocker has been
available for years in lousy VHS transfers, but heres a rare
chance to catch it in 35mm and on a big screen!

Girlie Night:
HOCUS POCUS Quote-Along (1993)
There have never been more fabulous witches than Bette Midler,
Sarah Jessica Parker and Kathy Najimy, which makes it hard to
remember that theyre the villains. Especially when Midler sings,
because she really can put a spell on you. But angsty teenager
Max (Omri Katz) and adorable little Dani (Thora Birch) are
worthy heroes, and how could you not root for a talking cat
named Thackery Binx? Mix all of these elements together, and
youve got a potion for a Halloween classic. This year, weve
made this film even more of a treat by turning it into a QuoteAlong! Youll be encouraged to say your favorite witchy lines,
sing along, and interact with the movie using themed props.
Video Vortex: SOUL OF THE DEMON (1991)
VHS-only insanity projected from VHS for only $1!
When two kids find a gargoyle statue by a lake, they unknowingly unleash a demon with an insatiable bloodlust for humans.
After some BMX tricks and a basketball scrimmage between
bros with hairstyles that look like piles of dead skunks, some
rejects from BILL AND TEDS BOGUS JOURNEY throw a
pizza party in an abandoned house on Halloween. The demon
shows up! And the mega-gory mutilation begins!!
Staff Picks:
STARSHIP TROOPERS (1997, 35mm)
Staff pick of Brian!
Giant bugs, space flights, awesome machine guns, and co-ed
showers. Johnny Rico was just your average ordinary twentysomething-looking high school kid, until BUGS attacked his
hometown of Buenos Aires. Fired up for revenge, Johnny and
his pals join the Federation Army to fight back because the only
good bug...is a DEAD BUG. Would you like to know more?
Prints of Darkness: TALES FROM THE CRYPT:
DEMON KNIGHT (1995, 35mm)
Introduced by Fangoria managing editor Michael Gingold.
William Sadler in person!
Successfully evoking the same mix of gruesomeness and giggles
that made the TV series so successful, this film pits a pair of
supernatural enemies against each other, with a host of nasty,
icky, perfectly realized demonic imps joining the battle. The
staging area is a boarding house inhabited by a great gallery of
rising stars and character actors, including Jada Pinkett (before
she got Smithed), Thomas Haden Church, CCH Pounder
and the inimitable Dick Miller, who here has one of the most
memorable scenes of his 60-year career.
