CARRIE (1976)
Enduring the humiliation that is the true stuff of teenage girl
nightmares - public shame for getting your period - Carrie is
constantly on the receiving end of her classmates pranks. At
home she is taunted with religious nonsense and talk of dirty
pillows, so whats a girl to do but transfer all that rage into
telekinetic powers? This film is so effectively terrifying, repeat
viewings wont numb you to it.
DISMEMBER THE ALAMO (35mm)
Presented by the American Genre Film Archive!
Every good dose of horror deserves a sequel. Thats why were
bringing you a four horror movie marathon, this time on
Halloween proper for maximum ghoulishness! All titles will be
in 35mm, and once again be secret until the projector rolls. All
well tell you is dont expect the obvious! In addition to the killer
move line-up, well have 35mm trailers, food & drink specials
and a costume contest, so be sure to dress to unrest!
DRACULA (1931)
Introduced by Ken Hanley, whose monster self-help book
The I in Evil comes out this month.
Handsome, mysterious and alluring, Lugosis Dracula was
at once so sexy and so haunting that audiences gasped when
he first opened his mouth to speak. After a half-year run on
Broadway, Dracula toured the United States to much fanfare
and critical acclaim throughout 1928 and 1929. There have
been many portrayls of Dracula since and even a few before, but
none as iconic as Bela Lugosis.
GHOSTBUSTERS (1984)
Spectre-destroyers Murray, Aykroyd, Ramis and the vastly
under-appreciated Hudson collectively defined everything we
enjoy in 80s cinema, unleashing a supernatural adventure that
busts funnybones as well as ghosts. Together, the four hopped
in a converted ambulance and made an entire decade safe for
hilarity, action, and transdimensional demon combat. This
special Movie Party Screening features a gorgeous new digital
restoration while simultaneously singing the theme song loud
and proud and quoting along with all of your favorite lines.
THE HAUNTING (1963)
No one lives in the 90-year-old Hill House. Or so it seems. But
come in. Four people come to the house to study its supernatural phenomena. Or has the house drawn at least one of them to
it? Indisputably one of the best haunted house films ever made,
THE HAUNTING is still capable of genuinely frightening an
audience with its masterful use of suggestion and atmosphere.

Maybe Tarantinos most ambitious effort, the KILL BILL films
are one of the most audacious odes to cinema an American filmmaker has ever made. Told in two very similar, yet completely
different volumes, the story is about The Bride and her quest for
revenge on those who tried to murder at her own wedding. Her
survival is unknown to them, which leads to one surprising and
action-filled confrontation after another.

Girlie Night:
HOCUS POCUS Quote-Along (1993)
There have never been more fabulous witches than Bette Midler,
Sarah Jessica Parker and Kathy Najimy, which makes it hard to
remember that theyre the villains. Especially when Midler sings,
because she really can put a spell on you. But angsty teenager
Max (Omri Katz) and adorable little Dani (Thora Birch) are
worthy heroes, and how could you not root for a talking cat
named Thackery Binx? Mix all of these elements together, and
youve got a potion for a Halloween classic. This year, weve
made this film even more of a treat by turning it into a QuoteAlong! Youll be encouraged to say your favorite witchy lines,
sing along, and interact with the movie using themed props.
Video Vortex: SOUL OF THE DEMON (1991)
VHS-only insanity projected from VHS for only $1!
When two kids find a gargoyle statue by a lake, they unknowingly unleash a demon with an insatiable bloodlust for humans.
After some BMX tricks and a basketball scrimmage between
bros with hairstyles that look like piles of dead skunks, some
rejects from BILL AND TEDS BOGUS JOURNEY throw a
pizza party in an abandoned house on Halloween. The demon
shows up! And the mega-gory mutilation begins!!
Staff Picks:
STARSHIP TROOPERS (1997, 35mm)
Staff pick of Brian!
Giant bugs, space flights, awesome machine guns, and co-ed
showers. Johnny Rico was just your average ordinary twentysomething-looking high school kid, until BUGS attacked his
hometown of Buenos Aires. Fired up for revenge, Johnny and
his pals join the Federation Army to fight back because the only
good bug...is a DEAD BUG. Would you like to know more?
Prints of Darkness: TALES FROM THE CRYPT:
DEMON KNIGHT (1995, 35mm)
Introduced by Fangoria managing editor Michael Gingold.
William Sadler in person!
Successfully evoking the same mix of gruesomeness and giggles
that made the TV series so successful, this film pits a pair of
supernatural enemies against each other, with a host of nasty,
icky, perfectly realized demonic imps joining the battle. The
staging area is a boarding house inhabited by a great gallery of
rising stars and character actors, including Jada Pinkett (before
she got Smithed), Thomas Haden Church, CCH Pounder
and the inimitable Dick Miller, who here has one of the most
memorable scenes of his 60-year career.
