Annual Loomis Eggplant Festival.

experience small-town hospitality at its

who return to the Festival year after year,

the Festival a Loomis tradition for almost
three decades.
Youre in for a full day of family fun,
including music and entertainment on
three stages, activities for kids, a cooking contest and demonstrations, gourmet

and festival food, arts and crafts, and

over 100 booths where community organizations and businesses will offer their
wares and information.
Would you like to try eggplant? If so,
pick up your free eggplant, while supplies last, courtesy of Raleys Supermarket and High Hand Nursery. Look for
more eggplant, and other fruits, vegetables and products, in the Blue Goose
Produce booth.
New at the Festival this year is a Paint

The Placer County Wine Growers
Association will be pouring their best
vintages so you can enjoy wines from
grapes grown in the regions unique and
ideal soils.
Want to try racing an eggplant? The
Eggonopolis 500 Pinewood Derby is the
place to do just that. Provide your own
decorated eggplant, or visit the American
Cancer Society booth to select the per-

fect eggplant to enter in the race. And,

its all free.
Look for Friends of the Loomis Library
storytime booth, another free activity
for youngsters.
Feeling hungry? Then start your day
by enjoying pancakes, eggs, and sausage
at the annual Loomis Firefighters Association pancake breakfast. The breakfast
will be held Saturday from 7 to 11 a.m.
in the fire station bay on Horseshoe Bar
Road just a stones throw from the Loomis Train Depot, where Eggplant Festival
activities begin at 9 a.m.

Rocklin is known for its amazing food,
wine and atmosphere. If you havent tried
the eggplant dishes served at the restaurant, the Eggplant Festival is your chance

Historic crate labelS will be given away

Nearly 30 years ago, when a group of
local folks decided to start the Eggplant
Festival, they had no idea it would be the
start of a decades-long tradition in Loomis.
The Loomis Eggplant Festival celebrates the towns agricultural roots as
a producer of some of the best plums,
peaches, pears, persimmons, cherries
and citrus grown anywhere.
To pay tribute to the thousands who
worked in the orchards and fruit sheds
and farmers and ranchers of South

Placer County throughout the years, the

Loomis Basin Chamber of Commerce will
give away authentic fruit crate labels to
visitors at the Eggplant Festival. The vintage labels have been donated by the
South Placer Heritage Foundation, which
owns and operates the historic Blue
Goose Fruit Shed.
