Dear Friends,

The 2015 Legacy Event is in two days, Thursday, September, 17 th . If you have not already purchased
your tickets please do so now. We have received a tremendous response, and we are expecting a
great turnout.

Please be reminded that this is an outdoor event held on the grass in the garden area of the
Oakland Museum. The current forecast calls for a daytime high of 72, however, the event goes well
into the evening (9:00pm) and the temperature is expected to drop to the low- 60s. We will have
space heaters located throughout thegrounds, but please be prepared for the change in weather.
Please use your own discretion in footwear choices.

Legacy Awards to Kapor Center for Social Impact, Pandora, and Sungevity

Dear Honorable Dan Kalb

The Board of Directors of the Jobs and Housing Coalition would be honored if you would
attend and participate in the 5th Annual Oakland Legacy Event on September 17, 2015. The
2015 Legacy Event will focus on bringing the tech industry to Oakland , with emphasis on
encouraging more diversity in the tech workforce . We will present Legacy Awards to Kapor
Center for Social Impact, Pandora, and Sungevity. These companies are dynamic leaders who
have committed to improving on a strong diverse workforce.
The Jobs and Housing Coalition is a non-profit organization of leaders of Oaklands major
businesses. Our goal is to promote the city and the region and build an economic and regulatory
environment that will foster the creation of new jobs and housing opportunities for our residents.
We were founded during Governor Browns 10K program in Oakland and our leadership
continues to enjoy excellent relations with the Governor.
The Legacy Event brings business leaders together for a festive evening and we present Legacy
Awards to deserving recipients to recognize their leadership and inspire others to help Oakland
grow.
We think this years focus on the tech industry is very timely given the fact that California has
been a leader in the growing tech revolution and given the fact that Oakland is committed to
diversity in the tech workforce.

About the Legacy Event

The Legacy Event will be held on Thursday, September 17, 2015, at the Oakland Museum of
California beginning with a VIP reception from 5:00 to 6:00 p.m. The main event will be from
6:00 to 9:00 p.m. Presentations of awards will occur from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m.

Guests will include the regions leading business people. We also invite every elected and
senior executive official in Oakland, and federal, state, county, and city representatives from
Alameda and Contra Costa counties, as well as various community leaders.

Unfortunately, Dan has a schedule conflict and so will not be able to attend, however, he said he

can call to RSVP, I need to ask again about the per person cost of the event for Form 700 reporting
purposes. If a staff member or two is comped on attending, can you tell me what the per person
cost is?

Much thanks, Greg and JR, for the speedy reply. Based on your two responses, Im not clear
if the per cost is $45 or still needs to be determined and is estimated at $55.

One or two in our office will RSVP with Kim and are looking forward to attending, but can
you be sure to please advise us on the determined per person cost as soon as it is clear?
We very much need to know the exact amount for a couple reasons.

Obviously, the first reason is the $50 disclosure threshold under state law for Form 700
reporting purposes. However, there is also a 2 nd reason the recently adopted Oakland
Government Ethics Act, which prohibits any Oakland public servant from accepting a gift of
more than $50 from any source that:

(a) Has done business or sought to do business with the public servants department; OR
(b) Has during the prior 12 months attempted to influence the public servant in any

legislative or administrative matter.

Thus, our staff would want to make sure that, for example, if we attend and are informed
that the cost was $55, we pay JHC for the cost amount over $50.
