The DCR

or Diagnostic Code Reader, is handheld tool used for diagnosis

of Perkins electronic engines, namely Perkins
1100 series and Perkins 2300 &2800 series.
It works according to the CAN bus
communication Protocol that comply with
SAE J1939 standard.
For our generating sets, this shall cover the
range from 300kVA to 650KVA for 50Hz
application
The DCR is capable of achieving the
following features:
A - Reading the active codes: which is a
number of 4 to 5 digits that indicate for
the problem that the engine is experiencing.
There are two kind of "Problems" or "Codes"
that engine may suffer from:
1/ Fault code: which indicates for a fault case for a component of the electronic system.
This fault could be Open circuit, intermittent fault , damage or other. For example, Coolant
Temperature sensor is short circuited.
2/ Event Code: which indicates for an abnormal condition of the engine as Engine high coolant
temperature.
B - Measurement for the engine basic measurements : Coolant temperature (C), oil
pressure(KPa), over speed (rpm) and others.
Besides, the DCR shall indicate for the number of times that a code has been experienced.
An interpretation paper of all codes shall be accompanied with the DCR.
